Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup
PODIUM RETURN THE AIM FOR LLOYD AT NURBURGRING Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup race winner Daniel Lloyd has his sights set on more silverware when the championship resumes for the sixth round of the season next Saturday, 6th August, at the Nurburgring in Germany. Marking the beginning of the second half of the campaign, the visit to the Eifel region of Germany will be the final time this year the Huddersfield 19-year-old will arrive at a track with no prior experience of the circuit. Therefore, he's aiming for a strong performance to set himself up nicely for the last three events of 2011 at Brands Hatch in the UK, and Oschersleben and Hockenheim in Germany. Ahead of next weekend's sixth race of the championship, Daniel is an impressive third in the driver standings - albeit tied on points with Swedish racer Ola Nilsson - and is just seven shy of second placed Stefano Proetto. With 60 points up for grabs for a victory, 48 points for a second place finish and 40 points for third, the title race could change at any time. Consistency is most certainly a major requirement in the Scirocco R-Cup and, despite some misfortune in Austria during the Red Bull Ring double-header in early June, Daniel has definitely proven his front-running credentials and fantastic pace. "Nurburgring looks an amazing track so I'm really looking forward to getting out there", he said, "I went on the simulator to get an idea of what to expect but that was on the Grand Prix track and we'll be on the shorter track so I'll have to get to grips with that. "Every track so far has been new to me but we've been able to get up to speed quickly and there's no reason why that shouldn't be the case next weekend either. Some of the others have got experience at the Nurburgring so I'll be playing catch-up a bit but I'm aiming for a podium - that would be great." Starting his first season of European-level competition sensationally well with pole position and a second place finish during the opening round at Hockenheim, the West Yorkshireman put the troubles of Austria firmly behind him at EuroSpeedway Lausitz with a memorable, and emotional, maiden win. During the most recent event at the unique Norisring street circuit in Germany just under four weeks ago, Daniel came close to fighting for his third podium of the year but had to settle for fourth position in the end. Ahead of his Nurburgring debut, the talented Briton is aiming high once more. He added: "Mateusz (Lisowski - championship leader) and Ola will definitely be tough to beat, they're the most consistent drivers I'm up against and they're very quick. There are a lot of good drivers in the championship though, it's proven to be really close so far this year and I'm sure it's going to be like that to the end of the season." Officially timed practice for the Nurburging event will take place next Friday, 5th August, with qualifying and round six following on Saturday, 6th August. Digital satellite and cable channel Motors TV will screen the race 'as-live' at approximately 18.20 UK time - for more details visit www.motorstv.com
