(SPEEDWAY 1)PLYMOUTH reserve Kyle Hughes suffered a suspected broken collarbone in a Heat 8 crash during the Devils’ win over Leicester.Hughes had been in good form with paid-10 from four rides but he could take no further part in the meeting. Ben Barker scored another home maximum in the 48-36 win, with the meeting abandoned due to rain before the last race could be run.Plymouth promoter Mike Bowden said: “It was a good win and it was important for us to take the three match points from the team immediately above us in the table.“Tribute is due to the riders of both teams for racing in the conditions and also to the public for staying to watch what proved to be an entertaining meeting.”(SPEEDWAY 2)SCUNTHORPE Saints boss Stuart Parnaby believes his side are serious National League title contenders after an impressive home win over Dudley. The Saints moved into the play-off places thanks to a 63-28 victory against the Heathens, with Ashley Birks and Steve Worrall both unbeaten from six rides.Parnaby said: “I know Adam Roynon wasn’t able to ride but even so the size of victory was a big surprise. I was expecting a tough test against a strong side but there was little competition in most races.“I’m hopeful we can pick up enough league points to make the play-offs. If we can win our three home meetings and at least two away from home then that should be enough but all we can really do is take it one meeting at a time and next up is Thursday’s double-header at Sheffield.”(FIXTURES)
