NEWCASTLE reserve Kyle Newman was an impressive winner of his first-ever Heat 15 appearance for the club in Sunday’s win over Ipswich. The Diamonds took the match 54-39 with Rene Bach, recently back from injury, dropping just one point from four rides – whilst Newman delighted home supporters by defeating Lasse Bjerre and Kevin Doolan in the last race.Boss George English said: “We are far happier with this result than of late, but what we need to try to do is get the consistency back and take wins like this home and away or we will continue to lose our grip on the upper positions in the League. “We need far more performances like this over a good side as Ipswich certainly were tonight. One final word though to the exceptional Heat 15 ride from Kyle – brilliant – the lad’s a star!”

DUDLEY Heathens have added Jamie Courtney to their side in time for Tuesday’s vital National League clash with Belle Vue at Monmore Green.Courtney, 23, takes the place of Adam Roynon who is struggling with the leg injury he sustained back in April and pulled out during Friday’s trip to Scunthorpe.Heathens chairman Nigel Pearson said: “We felt we had to do something because we had two poor results over the weekend which, in turn, hit confidence within the team.“I spent a lot of time over the weekend talking to Will Pottinger (team manager) and he feels the rider replacement facility puts too much pressure on the other riders so we moved to sign Jamie.”

MILDENHALL closed to within a point of the top of the National League by overcoming leaders Stoke 49-43 at West Row.The Fen Tigers could have overhauled the Potters in the table but were limited to two points from the meeting, largely thanks to a stunning 21-point maximum from visiting No.1 Simon Lambert.Mildenhall co-promoter Michael Lee said: “It was an exciting match and I am sure everyone in the crowd will have enjoyed it. It was great to see so many people here and I'm sure they'll come back for more after that. “All three points would have been nice, but we got another win which is the main thing. Now we have to keep our form going at the Isle of Wight on Tuesday, and back here against Scunthorpe next Sunday.”

BUXTON boss Jack Lee admits the 2011 season has presented the club with a huge contrast in fortunes compared to their all-conquering National League campaign last year. The Hitmen find themselves bottom of the table this time around and went down to a 46-47 home defeat against King’s Lynn in a thriller at the Hi-Edge Raceway on Sunday.Lee said: “After last year it’s such a big disappointment to come down with a bump, but once you get to the top the only way up is down so we have just got to keep sticking at it. Hopefully one day we will get all seven riders scoring points at the same meeting.“We have got to get some motivation from somewhere and just win a match. Today we thought we were going to do that but unfortunately it went against us towards the end, and all the lads are down in the dumps about it.”
