LAKESIDE’S Piotr Swiderski has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a broken leg in a crash in Poland on Sunday. The Hammers are also without Adam Shields and Stuart Robson due to injury but promoter Jon Cook is optimistic of making at least one new signing before the end of the month, with the club still involved in the race for honours.Cook said: “Firstly, we wish Piotr a speedy recovery. He has been excellent for us and in the last two weeks, with the added pressure of Play Offs in his homeland, he has travelled over late to our meetings and shown great commitment when here with no suggestion of going through the motions like some riders.“Our first priority is to make sure we are competitive for this Friday’s match against Peterborough and from there we will be going back to the riders we have been talking to and chasing for much of the time since Adam's injury.”

COVENTRY have announced the signing of Piotr Pawlicki, the younger brother of Przemyslaw who joined the club last year.16-year-old Pawlicki junior is set to make his debut in the home fixture against Belle Vue on Friday as the defending champions re-shuffle their lower order, although they are also sweating on Emil Sayfutdinov’s fitness after the Russian’s crashes in the Scandinavian Grand Prix last weekend.Co-boss Alun Rossiter said: “Piotr actually came over with his brother early last season and had a practice at Brandon, and we were impressed with him then. He was only just 15 at the time so we were obviously going to keep track of his progress.“We know he’s got plenty of talent and it might also benefit his brother too – it will be nice to see both of them racing for us together.”

KRZYSZTOF Buczkowski scored his first Elite League maximum as Peterborough ran up a massive 63-27 home win over Swindon.Buczkowski was unbeaten from five rides against the Robins with Nicki Pedersen also unbeaten as the Panthers answered boss Trevor Swales’ call for improvement following recent disappointments away from home.Swales said: “That was a stunning performance from everyone and it wasn’t even a flattering scoreline. We could have won by more as Richard Lawson wrecked an engine when it blew to pieces literally yards from the line when he was winning Heat 2.”Elsewhere on Monday, Birmingham kept up their good run of form with a 52-43 win over Belle Vue at Perry Barr, whilst a last-heat 5-1 from Tai Woffinden and guest Davey Watt saw Wolves edge out King’s Lynn 47-43 at Monmore Green.
