NEWCASTLE have confirmed that Sheffield will be the visitors to Brough Park on Sunday – and the Diamonds management have thanked their Tigers counterparts for agreeing to the fixture.Newcastle boss George English was desperate to avoid a second successive Sunday with no home meeting, and he still believes his side can push for a top six finish in the Premier League.English said: “We’re indebted to Neil Machin, the Sheffield promoter, who has moved heaven and earth to get a team to us for Sunday and help save the day and avoid a second blank Sunday at the height of summer, as we had to suffer last Sunday under the most frustrating of circumstances.“This means we’re in for a top-notch match with the usual start time of 6.30pm against our rivals from South Yorkshire including one of the consistently most exciting visitors to Byker, Australian veteran Shane Parker who you can always rely for some thrilling speedway, alongside Josh Auty, Ricky Ashworth and Argentinean star Emiliano Sanchez.”

BRITISH Under-19 Champion Jason Garrity has joined Premier League side Leicester – and former Scunthorpe man Viktor Bergstrom is another addition to the Lions’ ranks. The Beaumont Park club released John Oliver and Charles Wright over the weekend and the effect of the changes is that Russian rider Ilya Bondarenko moves to reserve alongside Garrity, with Bergstrom slotting into the top five.Manager Jason Attwood said: “I have followed Jason Garrity’s progress throughout this season and in my view he is now ready to make the step up from the National League to further his development. “Garrity’s inclusion will bring vibrancy to the side and in particular at reserve where we have struggled to compete on a consistent basis all season. Both Garrity and Bergstrom will make their debuts at Newport on Saturday.”

STOKE sent out a big statement to the rest of the National League with a massive 64-27 away win at Dudley on Tuesday. The Heathens were severely hampered by the loss of both reserves, Richard Franklin and Danny Stoneman in a Heat 2 crash, but the Potters dominated at the top of the order too with Simon Lambert notching a six-ride paid maximum and Jaimie Pickard adding paid-15.Manager Malcolm Vasey said: “This was a professional performance and one in which we all scored well and the result now puts us five points clear at the top of the table and we aim to stay there. “I know Dudley had their problems but the team kept to their job and did it professionally without taking our foot off the pedal at anytime during the evening.”
