Auto GP keeps broadening its horizons. The Series, that just closed his season, added another important partnership to his roster signing an agreement with Superstars International Series, a deal that following the philosophy always embraced by Enzo Coloni and Maurizio Flammini aims to promote the best young talents in motorsport.
The project entails the creation of a special “Rookie of the year” contest in the 2012 Superstars championship, a Trophy that will be reserved for the championship rookies up to an age of 24.
Thanks to the support received from the organizers of both Series the winner of this contest will earn the right to take part in 5 events of the 2013 Auto GP season, so entering the single-seater world from the main door.
Furthermore, all the contenders to the “Rookie of the Year” crown will have the chance to drive the Auto GP car already in 2012, participating in a test session that will be the right opportunity for a first contact with the Zytek powered machinery.
There’s even more, because the first step of this new partnership will happen in just a few weeks: Alberto Cerqui, the newly crowned Italian champion and best youngster of the 2011 Superstars season, will drive the Auto GP car in the Magione promotional test, so becoming one of the few drivers to have ever earned a single seater drive by winning a Touring Car championship.Enzo Coloni: “Throughout the years I often heard people saying that when a driver commits to Touring Car racing, it means that his single-seater chances are over. Frankly, I couldn’t agree less with that: when I was a racer I could drive any kind of machinery on the limit, from single-seaters to Saloon cars or even Sportscars, and I believe that today that’s still very possible for a gifted driver. So, as soon as we started speaking about this with Maurizio Flammini and his staff, I saw the chance to go against a motorsport taboo, something that I often did in my career.
Working together, Auto GP and Superstars created an unique chance in Motorsport, a programme that will give a young driver a chance to show on single-seater the same talent he boasted on a saloon car. Furthermore he will have the opportunity to do so in the same championship that launched Romain Grosjean back on the right path to GP2 and F1 and that in 2011 elected Kevin Ceccon as one of the most interesting talents in European motorsport. Could you ask for more?”.
