as 2012 Rookie of the Year challenge takes off
Alberto Cerqui, winner of the 2011 Rookie title as well as the Italian SUPERSTARS Championship, lined-up for a full day of testing aboard an AutoGP racecar, a prize ride which was offered to him by SUPERSTARS SERIES as a part of the “ROOKIE OF THE YEAR 2012” competition.
It's been a really particular experience, as confirmed by Cerqui himself. "Being here is really exciting. When I started the season I was aiming at the Rookies' title, then my grip with our BMW M3 became better and better and I managed to capture the Italian championship and fight for the International honours. I want to thank SUPERSTARS as well as team BMW Italia and AutoGP for the great chance I was offered today".
During this day of testing at Magione, Cerqui lined-up on a powerful AutoGP racer, logging about 80 laps. "I managed to complete a positive day of testing. My goal was to take full advantage of this opportunity without taking excessive risks. I gradually merged with the car and improved my laptimes, although clocking a record lap has never been a priority. I think that this initiative, with the SUPERSTARS SERIES awarding a 2013 European Season in AutoGP to the 2012 Rookie Of The Year, is sensational. It really represents a fantastic chance for young drivers to start a professional career in motorsports".
For 2012, the SUPERSTARS SERIES launched a brand-new ROOKIE OF THE YEAR competition, dedicated to 8, under-24 young racers making their debut in the FG GROUP-promoted championship. After having proved challenging as well as highly-developmental, SUPERSTARS focused on young, fresh talents by awarding the winner a fully-funded European season run in the 2013 AutoGP Championship. The first 8 candidates to sign-in before the December 15 deadline will be also enabled to try their skills in a test-day aboard of an AutoGP racecar.
