Mini Max star Lando Norris continued his incredible run of form with yet another podium at Larkhall (7/8 July), whilst Junior Max front-runner Sam Marsh claimed back-to-back 3rd places to keep his title challenge firmly on track.
Norris hit the ground running at the Lanarkshire circuit, setting the pole position-winning time ahead of the heats. Using his advantage at the head of the field for each of the two starts, Lando scored a brace of confident victories to claim pole for Sundays first final.
With his rivals fettling their karts ahead of the race, the gap was closed and Norris found himself with a fight on his hands. Consequently, he found himself surrounded by a gaggle of drivers able to match or better his pace. A terrific scrap was resolved with Lando taking 2nd place and yet another good haul of championship points.
The following race saw Norris having to fight even harder as his early advantage appeared to have disappeared. A gritty 6th place was to be the best reward he could take home.
We werent quite fast enough, said RL team owner, Steve Armstrong. Even being just a tenth (of a second) down really shows at Larkhall. The equipment had nothing spare for when it kicked off at the end of the race and that made it hard for him to race for the win. It was the first time in about ten meetings that he has not been in the podium and thats not a feeling we want to get used to.
The teams talented trio of Junior Max stars; Sam Marsh, Josh White and Oliver Norris saw Sam emerge as the only one of their number to leave Scotland holding a trophy.Josh and Oli struggled for pace, but battled gamely on in the preliminaries, leaving Sam to sit 3rd on the grid for the first final after a solid performance in qualifying and the heats. Ultimately, he finished where he started and he went on to repeat his earlier finish with 3rd in the second final, delighting Armstrong: Sam was our best performer. What made it particularly pleasing was the fact that Larkhall has traditionally been a bogey track for him. Also, hes now moved up the championship order and now has a real chance of winning it overall.
He added: He did a really good job. He was professional, focused and never out of the top three.
