Britain's biggest 'single make' racing championship has taken the unprecedented step of appointing the Castle Combe Racing Club to run its championship in 2013 and beyond.
Ma5da Racing, with championships catering for relatively standard versions of the Mazda MX5 road car, has been a huge success story since its founding in 2008. It regularly fields over 100 cars at a typical race meeting and has 130 drivers registered to take part. Its races take place at most of the UK's circuits including Castle Combe.
Following its last visit to the circuit in June and after much consideration, Ma5da Racing chose the Castle Combe Racing Club (a two time MSA award winning club) as its partner for 2013. The CCRC will be responsible for arranging all Ma5da Racing meetings, going against the usual precedent of this task being given to a national club.
Jonathan Blake, the Ma5da championship Director said,"Ma5da Racing has long been renowned for its fresh approach towards providing the platform of choice for club motorsport. The obvious next step was to improve the current monopoly and precedence of organising clubs with a fresh and cost effective approach. We have been impressed, motivated and encouraged by CCRC through discussions and have reached a joint agreement to work in partnership to develop this new approach. CCRC have everything to prove in this new venture and Ma5da Racing will not accept anything but improvement, so together with CCRC we can make a difference and re-shape the future of club motorsport in the UK. A bold ambition, but through dedication, support and ensuring the driver comes first, we are confident we have the combined experience to produce that much needed winning formula."
Adrian Fawdington, CCRC's Chairman & Commercial Director said," Castle Combe Racing Club sees this new opportunity as a natural evolution after seven years of operating its three local championships and series with great success. We share the same objective with Ma5da of delivering outstanding value for money racing, whilst constantly focusing on the customer. With a fresh approach, new ideas and new people, 2013 will see new drive, new commitment and new opportunities for the benefit of all parties and particularly the competitor.
The club has already appointed a dedicated Administrator and a permanent 'Clerk of the Course', along with a state of the art, on-line race entry system.
Until the end of 2012, Ma5da Racing's activities will continue to be looked after by the British Racing and Sports Car Club.
