GREAT Britian boss Neil Middleditch says the race for the national title at Wolverhampton on Monday promises to be an open battle.GBs riders from the recent World Cup will be in direct competition in the British Final, but there are several others looking to challenge for the title and the Wild Card place for the British Grand Prix.Middleditch said: Its a difficult one to call. Normally there are just a few riders who can realistically win, but this year theres a number who can be British Championso it should be a great competition with some really competitive action on track. This is the big one as far as our British speedway riders are concerned. Its the one all of them want, young and old. To have British Champion on your CV is not a bad thing to have, and its certainly not taken lightly.

EASTBOURNE recovered from another sluggish start to collect maximum points from their home clash with top-four rivals Kings Lynn. The Eagles trailed 6-12 after three races but hit back for a 53-37 win, Simon Gustafsson top-scoring with 13+1.Manager Trevor Geer said: Im not sure why the lads seemed to feel they need to hand the opposition a lead in the early heats, I wish they wouldnt, it really isnt good for the heart rate. However, you cant deny it makes for great entertainment and it did so once again. They bounced back in style and I was particularly pleased of course with the five 5-1s mid-meeting that turned it around for us, but also with the way they covered the rider replacement rides in the absence of Lewis (Bridger).(SPEEDWAY 3)
JESPER B Monberg made a positive debut for Somerset, whose win over Leicester moves the Rebels above the Lions in the Premier League table.Monbergs new club are up to second place, the Dane contributing paid-10 in a 51-39 home win and teaming up with James Wright for two 5-1s.Monberg said: Yes, it was a good way to start with Somerset. The team got the win and all three league points and I had a good first meeting. Obviously it would have been nice to have won a race on my debut, but Lasse (Bjerre) pipped me in my last ride, but I am happy with the way I performed tonight especially as I have never ridden at Somerset before. It is a great track and I am sure that I will enjoy riding for the Rebels.(SPEEDWAY 4)
EDINBURGH have re-signed Hungarian racer Jozsef Tabaka to fill the gap at No.6 in their team.Tabaka, who last raced for the club in 2010, will return for the Monarchs from next Friday, following this weekends matches against PlymouthEdinburgh having defeated the Devils at home 55-41.Meanwhile Scunthorpe boss Richard Hollingsworth says returning to full strength is a priority after seeing his side edge out Berwick 48-42, a result which also saw the Bandits take a league point.Hollingsworth said: We do need a seven-man team. We are exploring possibilities in this area, and we should know more in the next week or so about David Howes fitness and what we need to do in that area. We do want to track a seven-man team again.(SPEEDWAY 5)
GLASGOW have signed Charles Wrightwho started the season with local rivals Edinburghand he will make his debut against Rye House on Sunday.Wright replaces Jayden OMalley, who has been rested from the Tigers after a tough first season in the Premier League although the club state he does have a future with them.Co-promoter Alan Dick said: Charles has a point to prove and should add a little experience in a key area. He will make his debut on Sunday and in a twist of fate his last race for Edinburgh was at Ashfield against us in the KO Cup and he won it! A repeat of that will do nicely.Jayden texted me after the meeting with Rye House and asked to be dropped and having weighed up the situation we felt that it was the right course of action to take. I suspect we will see a huge jump in his level of performance next season.(FIXTURES)
