WORKINGTON look set to be without their in-form reserve Kyle Howarth for a time after he fractured his left wrist in a spill in the Comets 50-40 defeat at Newcastle on Sunday. The Diamonds are now seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table thanks to victory in a bruising encounter which contained several incidents.Workington boss Tony Jackson said: There were a lot of crashes at Brough Park but unfortunately Kyle came off the worst. It is a real blow for Kyle and for the club as he has been magnificent for us so far this season. In the short-term we will have to rely on guests and once we know how long he will be ruled out of action well have a clearer idea on how we cover for him, which may include making a short-term signing. In the meantime we all wish him a speedy recovery.

RYE House promoter Len Silver admitted his riders had struggled to get to grips with the Glasgow circuit in their Premier League defeat on Sunday.Despite a maximum from guest Jason Doyle, the Rockets went down 36-51 in a match curtailed one race early due to the weather and after losing at Workington on Saturday, it completed a point-less Northern tour for the Hoddesdon club.Silver said: It was a disappointment that our riders were generally not able to adapt to the track on the day. The circuit was a bit bumpy but they should have taken the lead of Jason Doyle, and also Jason Bunyan, in terms of attacking it more. The harder you rode it the better and easier it was.It also didnt help that Anders Mellgren hit bike trouble after scoring paid 13 at Workington.

BUXTON and Mildenhall shared the spoils in an enthralling National League clash at the Hi-Edge Raceway with a 43-43 draw after rain prevented Heat 15 from being completed. The Fen Tigers hit back from a twelve point deficit to level the scores, whilst the home side were also pleased with their efforts especially as No.1 Charles Wright was unavailable due to a Premier League commitment for Glasgow.Buxton promoter Jayne Moss said: Charles will not be able to race at our home meetings now as he has been signed to Glasgow who also race on a Sunday, so the lads had to dig deep today to prove they can still win. Its a real shame the weather couldnt hold off for one more heat to see who would come out victorious from this battle, but you can definitely see we have a much stronger team now from a month or so back and we are pretty confident going into this weeks fixtures off the back of this.

IN-FORM Craig Cook and Adam Roynon have been drafted into the Great Britain team for Wednesdays Test Match at Poole.Cook and Roynon replace Tai Woffinden and Lewis Bridger, who have withdrawn due to injury, whilst opponents Australia call-up Ty Proctor in place of broken rib victim Chris Holder.GB boss Neil Middleditch said: I always felt that Lewis was being optimistic when he told me he was going to try and make the British Final and my fears were founded when he had to turn back whilst en route to the meeting, whilst Tai told me on Monday that he really didn't feel up to racing on Wednesday. "I have no problems in bringing in Adam or Craig, it will be valuable experience for them. Craig rode wonderfully well on Monday scoring ten points and as with Adam, I have been impressed with his form this season.

KINGS Lynn promoter Keith Chapman celebrates 20 years since he took over the club in Wednesdays big Elite League local derby against Peterborough.Chapman rescued the Stars who had closed for five weeks mid-season after the departure of previous promoter Bill Barker, and team manager Rob Lyon is desperate for his team to pull off a win to mark the occasion.Lyon said: I must admit that we are a bit hit and miss at the moment but I have spoken to various riders and told them how much this night means to Buster and the club, I feel they will respond to that and give it their best performance possible so we can beat the Panthers. With the new August averages coming into effect it also means we now have Kevin (Wolbert) and Mateusz (Szczepaniak) at reserve which I believe gives us the strongest reserve pairing in the league.
