Forza Racing enjoyed a successful weekend at the Glan-y-Gors circuit in north Wales, the fourth round of the MSA British Junior Kart Championship, as points leader George Russell, KF3 class rookie Billy Monger and team newcomer Jessica Hawkins ran at the front of the field throughout the weekend (29 July).

Russell was in dominant form, taking a clean sweep of timed qualifying pole, two heat wins and two final wins to extend his title lead over nearest rival Alex Gill. The event was held in changeable conditions, with the first of the two heats being run with slick tyres on a wet track, but that couldn't ruffle Russell as he made it six final wins from eight races in the British series in 2012. Team chief Jamie Croxford said: "George was very strong all weekend and his Intrepid chassis and his equipment worked very well. We've still got a lot of work to do to stay at the front but we're still on course for the title."

Billy Monger shone through adversity as he spent the early part of the weekend getting to grips with a track on which he's never previously raced. He fought through the field to finish seventh in the first final, and continued to move forward in the second final as he chased down his first KF3 podium. Monger made it past rival Darius Karbaley for third, but a clash between the pair shortly afterwards put Monger off the road and down to 18th. "It's not a phrase I like using much, but it was a racing incident," explained Croxford. "He had a real chance of getting third and maybe even catching Alex Gill for second, so it was definitely Billy's best performance of the year so far."

In only her second meeting with the team, Jessica Hawkins had to fight back from an electrical problem in qualifying that put her at the back of the grid for the heats. She finished 11th in the first final and briefly ran third in the second final after Monger's problems before falling back to fifth. Croxford said: "Jessica was in the top three or four through all the pre-event testing, so it was a real shame what happened in qualifying. She was unlucky to lose two places near the end of the second final, and if Billy had still been up there we could have had all three drivers in the top six."

The Forza Racing crew face a busy time this weekend (August 3-5), with their efforts split over two different countries. Russell, KF3 stablemate Robert Shwartzman and KF2 star Josh Read will all be competing in the final round of the WSK Euro Series at Zuera in Spain, while six youngsters across the WTP Cadet and Honda Cadet classes will be competing at PF International in Kartmasters, the British Grand Prix of karting. Among those Cadet racers will be Herbie Grout, who raced in the Comer Cadet class at GYG at the weekend, qualifying for a Super One A final for the first time.
