Tyco Suzuki's Martin Barr and Stuart Edmonds have been selected by the Motor Cycle Union of Ireland to represent their country at the forthcoming Motocross of Nations at Lommel in Belgium next month.

Barr (pictured), who currently holds fifth place in the British Championship and third place in the Red Bull Pro Nationals seires, will spearhead the Irish team's campaign in the MX1 class. Barr has been a mainstay of the Irish squad since his MX of Nations debut in the 2005 French event.

Dubliner Edmonds will tackle the Open Class in this, his fourth appearance at the 'Nations, with the MX2 berth filled by former TAS Suzuki rider Graeme Irwin. The reserve rider will be 2012 Ulster MX1 champion Wayne Garrett from Comber, also a former TAS Racing rider, with team management overseen by former GP rider Laurence Spence.

Favourites for the September 29 -30th event are current champions Team USA - unbeaten since Zolder in Belgium in 2003 - but Belgium will be hoping for a win on home soil, with Italy, France and Germany also in the running with very powerful teams.

Martin Barr:

"It's always a great honour to represent your country at the Motocross of Nations and having made the successful switch to RM-Z450 machinery this season, I'm confident that we can pull of another great result. Lommel is a great track and the Belgians certainly know how to ramp-up the atmosphere, so it will be a fitting end to the season."

Stuart Edmonds:

"I love riding at the 'Nations representing Ireland and it will be all the more special this year with two Tyco Suzuki riders in the Irish team. Belgium really is the home of motocross so the atmosphere will be superb; let's hope we can put on a good show for the army of Irish fans who make the annual pilgrimage."

This Sunday the Tyco Suzuki team will take in the fifth round of the Red Bull Pro Nationals at Canada Heights. Stephen Sword and Martin Barr currently hold first and third positions in the MX1 class with Stuart Edmonds fifth in MX2
