BMW driver is the coolest at Nurburgring and scores second season victory
Edoardo Mortara (Audi) finishes second, Martin Tomczyk (BMW) third and Jamie Green (Mercedes Benz) fourth
Hankook competition tyre remains quick and consistent in long stints in spite of massive heat
Bruno Spengler kept cool in the hot battle at the Nrburgring and won the sixth DTM round of the season at the legendary Nrburgring on Sunday. In bright sunshine and with a temperature of 32 degrees Centigrade, the BMW driver started from first place and dominantly controlled the race throughout the 49 laps. With his second victory of the year, the 28-year old moves up into second place in the drivers standings, 20 points behind leader Gary Paffett (Mercedes-Benz).
Audi driver Edoardo Mortara finished second behind Spengler, reigning DTM champion Martin Tomczyk (BMW) finished third and thus made for a perfect weekend for the brand from Munich and DTM returnee. Jamie Green was the best-placed Mercedes-Benz driver in fourth position. His fellow Mercedes-Benz driver Gary Paffett, who had started from eleventh place on the grid, still made it into the points with his sixth place finish and still has the best chances in the battle for the title.
Like in qualifying already, the Hankook slick tyre was also totally unaffected by the massive heat at the Nrburgring and the high asphalt temperatures of almost 50 degrees Centigrade during the race on Sunday. Many drivers used the incredible consistency of the Ventus Race, came in for the second and final tyre change at an early stage and drove a long final stint. Thus, more than half of the race distance could be completed with one set of tyres. The Hankook slick convinced in these extreme conditions with a high level of consistency and enabled all drivers to set fast lap times.
Bruno Spengler (BMW): After the summer break, that was a great weekend with pole, victory and the 40th anniversary of BMW M. The team has done a great job, the Hankook tyres were sensational. In such a heat and with the partly hard kerbstones, anything can happen, but the tyres had a lot of grip throughout the race and allowed for fast and consistent lap times.
Edoardo Mortara (Audi): Finishing second is quite nice, but my goal is to win races and to move up to the top of the drivers standings as well. Today, BMW was very strong, we have to improve our car in order to have a chance in the next race at Zandvoort.

We hadnt been at the Nrburgring for 20 years, we celebrated the 40th anniversary of BMW M on Friday and now, we win as well. The tyres have worked very well and we could do long stints. Bruno dominantly pulled clear in front of the field and Martin has shown great overtaking manoeuvres.
