SHEFFIELD star Ricky Wells says he and colleague Richard Hall are determined to make the most of their Premier League Pairs call-up.The Tigers, who won in 2010 with Ricky Ashworth and Josh Auty, joined the line-up for Fridays Somerset showpiece after Berwick had to withdraw due to injuries.Wells said: I believe we can do this, absolutely. We have what it takes and both Richard and me are going there with a positive head on.When you look down the line-up there is no reason why we cant go there and challenge for the title. Its nice for us to be in the meeting and we will be going for it!

SWINDON have moved to clarify the situation with British star Simon Stead after a weekend of speculation surrounding his future with the club.Robins bosses have confirmed Stead, who celebrated his Testimonial with a hugely successful meeting last week, will be in the side for Thursday's vital meeting with title rivals Poole at the Abbey.Co-promoter Gary Patchett said: Simon is aware we are concerned about his form. He says he is determined to turn things around which is good to hear, and we will continue to work with him to enable him to achieve that.For our part Alun (Rossiter) and I are solely focused on producing the team best possible to give us every chance of play off success.

RYE House have finally secured the signing of Simon Lambert who has now left National League club Stoke.Lambert, who is unable race in both leagues with the doubling-up facility unavailable, had previously indicated that he would remain with the Potters for the remainder of the season.But following further talks he has now elected to join the Rockets and will make his debut in the home Bank Holiday Monday fixture against former club Leicester.Lambert said: I would like to thank Stoke Speedway for taking me on when I had nothing, but I am ambitious, I want to race in the Premier League to forward my career, and I am looking forward to this new challenge. I would also like to thank both Len (Silver) and John (Sampford) for sorting this all out.

DUDLEY remain on course to finish top of the National League after defeating title rivals Mildenhall 54-40 at Monmore Green.Reserve Tom Perry scored 16+1, staying unbeaten until Heat 15, whilst Joe Jacobs led the way for the Fen Tigers with 13and the two clubs are looking ahead to possible big-match meetings in the closing weeks of the season.Heathens chairman Nigel Pearson said: Much has been said and written about events surrounding our trip to Mildenhall on Sunday but its now time to look ahead. JASON Lyons will bring the curtain down on an illustrious career when he stages his Farewell meeting at Birmingham on Thursday.Lyons has been a regular in British Speedway for over 20-years, spending the bulk of his time with Belle Vue before a move to Perry Barr in 2007 when the Brummies re-opened.A serious leg injury last season whilst racing for Redcar ended his career, but a host of top stars will turn out in his meeting including Chris Harris and Freddie Lindgren just two days before they race in the British GP at Cardiff.Piotr Protasiewicz, Ryan Sullivan, Adam Skornicki and Tomasz Jedrzejak will also be making rare British appearances in a meeting to be run over a full 20-heat format plus Final.
