The Porsche Club Championship has featured bumper grids and quality racing so far this season and its annual Bank Holiday Monday visits to Castle Combe should prove no different on August 27th. Multiple drivers and Porsche models have proved capable of winning with dices all the way down the field, and the sweeping Combe circuit always shows the field off at their best in the two races.
The 996 C2, first of the water-cooled 911 variants, is a new addition to the field for 2012 and has already proved a winner in the hands of Mark McAleer and Pete Morris. The most powerful car n the fieldthe 996 is also the heaviest with the varying models balanced by power to weight ratio.
Reigning champion Mark Sumpter in his older 964 C2 has risen to the challenge and been a constant front-runner, with Paragon team-mate Andy Purdie another usually to be found in the lead group. Former BTCC racer Mark Proctor has been a frequent podium visitor in his 993 C2, battling hardoften with brother-in-law McAleer.
Richard Ellis took his first outright win in his 993 at Donington earlier this season, while former champion Chris Dyer has been the best of the Class One front-engined runners with his 968 CS. The Hartech-run Boxsters of Ben Demetriou and Marcus Carniel, driver show have both gone well at Combe before, provide variety in Class One, Demetriou the first to give the Boxster an outright win.
With 45kg more ballast the 968 is also eligible for Class Two and there it has proved the car to have, with long-time championship leader Paul Follett leading the way with his example. Follett hasnt had it all his own way, with Alex Eacock, Tim Speed and Brian Robinson also taking class wins.
Qualifying is at 08.30 on Monday morning, with the two 25-minute races scheduled for 12.40 and 16.05.
