Tony Lynch focused on closing the gap at Lydden Rallycross
Tony Lynch is fully focused on closing the gap to championship leader Johny Bean when the Swift Sport Rallycross Championship heads to Lydden Hill this weekend for the latest round of the season. The Lucas Oil Team Geriatric driver has endured a tough run of form in recent events, but remains firmly in contention for the title, going into the Bank Holiday meeting just seven points behind in the race for the 2012 crown.Having had chance to regroup after the disappointment of Mallory Park, where a puncture in the final prevented him from fighting for victory, Tony heads to Lydden Hill eager to fight for his second win of the 2012 campaign.Tony goes into the event with confidence high on the back of an appearance at the annual Rallyday event at Castle Combe last weekend, where he was selected as a finalist in a national competition to find a driver to contest the Cambrian Rally in a works-backed Ford Fiesta R2.Although he missed out on securing the top prize, Tony was able to spend time during the course of the weekend with former World Rally Champion Petter Solberg and he admitted that speaking to the current Ford WRC man had given him a boost ahead of the resumption of his Rallycross campaign. Its not often that you get to speak to a World Champion so I felt honoured to get the opportunity to meet with Petter Solberg during Rallyday, Tony said. He gave me some good advice about how to approach my racing and Im going to take it on board this weekend when we get to Lydden Hill.Obviously it would have been nice to win the competition last weekend, but my focus now is firmly on the job at hand and closing the gap to Johny in the standings. Weve had our fair share of bad luck recently and hopefully that is going to come to an end and we can have a trouble-free run to bring ourselves back into contention.Lydden Hill is a circuit I enjoy and where I have always gone well, so the aim is to try and come away from the event with the maximum points possible to bring the gap to Johny down. There are only two events left after Lydden, so it is important that we outscore him this weekend to set ourselves up for the final meetings of the year.
