POOLE have announced the signing of Piotr Pawlicki as a replacement for broken leg victim Dennis Andersson. The Pirates confirmed their move for the 17-year-old Poole during their 57-37 Elite League win over Lakeside on Wednesday.Promoter Matt Ford said: Usually I would be saying that we need to give riders time to settle but I don't think we can afford to do that in the case of Piotr. He has a key role to play in the middle of the side and his support to the top three will be critical for the team for the rest of the season.(SPEEDWAY 2)
TROY Batchelor scored a 15-point maximum as Swindon kept the pressure on at the top of the Elite League with an impressive 52-41 win at Kings Lynn.Batchelor reeled off five straight wins on his return to his first British home track with the Robins moving to within one point of leaders Poole.Boss Alun Rossiter said: Troy will take the plaudits and rightly so, because he was outstanding, but this was a fantastic all-round performance and it showed exactly what were all about.Frank (Dawid) Lampart was great especially as he struggled a bit here last time, and Im really pleased for Steady (Simon Stead) too. We asked him some questions recently and hes responded, and if he keeps on going like this well be more than happy.(SPEEDWAY 3)
SOMERSET could secure their place in the Premier League play-offs with victory over Plymouth at the Oak Tree Arena on Friday. The Rebels have called-up Lasse Bjerre to guest for Jesper B Monberg as their recent signing is contesting the Danish Championship, and Alex Davies also misses out as he is on international duty.Somerset co-promoter Debbie Hancock said: Although Plymouth have yet to pick up a point on their travels in the Premier League this year, they probably feel that Friday night is the time for them to break that duck, especially with twp ex-Rebels in their line up to go alongside the likes of (Ben) Barker and (Ryan) Fisher. But in saying that, we have the incentive of possibly securing our play-off spot come Friday night and I am sure that well be able to see off what I am sure will be a determined Devils side.(SPEEDWAY 4)
SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey believes his side have the firepower to threaten Edinburghs unbeaten home Premier League record on Friday. The Scorpions are first-on in a double-header at Armadale which also features Redcar, and despite the absence of Nick Morris due to international duty, Godfrey feels they can improve their record at the Scottish venue.Godfrey said: Its our last away match of the regular season and its one weve got to be targeting as a potential win. Were talking Kevin Wolbert as a guest, who is a former Edinburgh rider; Ashley Birks flies around there; and I would say its a Thomas Jorgensen kind of track, because its a bit of a turning track. So we could be all right up there.
