REIGNING British Under 19 Champion Jason Garrity has been ruled out of defending his title due to a hand injury.Garrity has suffered nerve and tissue damage which is proving to be far more serious than first diagnosed, and will rule him out of the Sheffield event on Septemebr 13.Garrity said: I am devastated at not being able to defend my title because I was very confident that it was to be mine again. I am sure that I have progressed as a rider this season and I am very impatient to get back on my bike to prove it, but good luck to all the other guys, they're lucky not to have me to contend with!

BIRMINGHAM continue to gain ground on the Elite League play-off places after securing a crucial 48-42 away win at Kings Lynn.The Brummies still have four home matches to come, including Thursdays home return against the Stars, and the Norfolk club must gain revenge if they are to keep their own outside hopes alive.Birminghams top two riders, Bjarne Pedersen and Sebastian Ulamek, have both struggled for consistency this season but scored 24 points between them to head up the victory.Brummies boss Phil Morris said: It was a great night. I think this opens a few peoples eyes and shows that we are a force to be reckoned with and we can make the play-offs.

PIOTR Pawlicki made a successful home debut for Poole with ten points in a 54-38 win over Eastbourne.With Darcy Ward scoring a paid maximum and Krzysztof Kapsrzak dropping just one point, the Pirates moved five points clear of Swindon in the Elite League table.The Robins do, however, have two matches in hand, the first of which coming when they face bottom club Belle Vue at Blunsdon on Thursday.And the crunch fixture in the race for top placeand the right to choose semi-final opponentscould well be next Monday when the top two meet at Wimborne Road.
