WORKINGTON were in dominant mood at Derwent Park on Saturday as they ran up their biggest win of the season. The Comets registered a 65-29 victory over Plymouth and now have a six-point cushion as they look to secure a top six place, with the Devils scoring restricted by the loss of Ben Barker to a wrist injury in Heat 1.Manager Tony Jackson said: It was a terrific effort from the team as we provided all fifteen race winners while Rene Bach raced to a full maximum and Richard Lawson a paid maximum. We couldnt have asked for more from our guests Michael Palm Toft and Richard Hall, who were both superb, and although Plymouths cause clearly wasnt helped by the loss of Ben after just one ride that shouldnt detract from a great performance that will hopefully keep us on course for a top-six finish.(SPEEDWAY 2)
NEWCASTLE collected a useful point towards their Premier League play-off push thanks to a last-heat 5-1 at Berwick on Saturday. The Bandits won a close-fought encounter 46-43, with Stuart Robson and Mark Lemon securing the consolation point for the visitors in the last race. The result leaves the Diamonds third in the table but with matches in hand on both Somerset and Scunthorpe above them.Manager George English said: We took another league point and that helps with our aim to finish as high as possible before the championship play-offs. We rode better tonight than I suspect many people expected and despite the loss we came away with positives.(SPEEDWAY 3)
RYE House promoter Len Silver says Saturdays home defeat by Redcar sums up the Rockets fortunes over recent weeks. The home side were beaten 41-49 at Hoddesdonand Silver says his team must re-group for the final regular fixtures of the Premier League season. He said: Not only have we been forced into fielding a weak team through no fault of our own but we seem to be getting the bad luck as well. It always seems that when you are on your game, everything goes for you but that when you are down you get kicked.Weve got two matches left now, both against Edinburgh, and the bottom line is that we simply have to win at least the home fixture to ensure we do not finish bottom.

STOKE moved back into the National League play-off zone with a hard-fought 45-45 draw against second-placed Mildenhall at Loomer Road. The Potters needed a 5-1 from the last race to win, and they briefly held that position through Ashley Birks and James Cockle, but the Fen Tigers Stefan Nielsen split the pairing to ensure two league points for his side.Stoke boss Malcolm Vasey said: We were on a 5-1 and you think were going to win but unfortunately it was not to be, and we just took the 4-2 so it ended up a draw which I would think will put us in the play-offs. We do have a better points average which is worth a point in itself and moves us into third place, so tonight is a valuable point for us.The lads really did try their best and I feel a draw was a fair result as we had some bad luck as did they.(FIXTURES)
