Dorian Rees, Rallye Sunseeker preview

After several excellent results in his Subaru Impreza, Dorian Rees will now face his toughest rally to date when he ventures to Bournemouth to contest the first round of the Kumho National Rally Championship, the Rallye Sunseeker on 27th/28th February. The Llanybydder driver will be making his debut on the championship opener and will not be short of competition in the extremely competitive Group N showroom class, with over 50 cars making up the class. The class also playing host to the Mitsubishi Evolution Challenge, the one make series attracting a strong field. Having several top three overall positions under his belt in the Group N machine, Rees will be aiming for a strong class position and not too concerned for his overall finishing order on the South Coast event."Our results have been good and we have learned a fair amount in the car, but Bournemouth will be a good battle. The class has many good drivers competing and we will be aiming for a top three position within the class and maybe a top ten overall placing. Never competing there before is not going to be a problem for me, as we have had many good results outside of Wales when we had the Peugeot's. However, with a strong and competitive class it will certainly do our credibility the world of good if we can finish well on the rally."Rees will have 2003 Welsh National Championship winning co-driver, Patrick Walsh, to keep him company throughout the weekend and for the remainder of the season. The pair have planned to contest the first two rounds of both British Rally Championship and the Kumho series and review their strategy from there."Patrick and myself have discussed our plans for the season and he is keen to sit with me. After two rounds of both series, we will review our season and see where we lie and concentrate on the stronger position. With some good results we hope to attract sufficient support to complete a full season."
