BIRMINGHAM moved back into the play-off places with a 56-34 win over Eastbourne a result which also ends the Eagles Elite League chances. The Brummies made a sluggish start and trailed 19-23 but produced a dominant display in the second half of the meeting at Perry Barr, and they can now clinch a play-off place with a draw or win at Coventry on Friday.Birmingham boss Phil Morris said: I'm very pleased. The boys really put a shift in. The first eight heats weren't looking great but the second half of the meeting really showed what Birmingham are capable of as a team.I believe if we can put two halves of the meeting together like that second half, then we can beat anyone around this circuit without a doubt.(SPEEDWAY 3)
LAKESIDES defeat at Swindon on Thursday means the Hammers must now beat Peterborough at Purfleet on Friday in order to keep their play-off hopes alive. The Robins won 55-38 at Blunsdon to move to within two points of Poole in the battle for top spot, and the Hammers are outside the top four with one meeting to go.Lakeside promoter Jon Cook said: The last few weeks have been tough but the signs of a return to form are there and we know this is our last chance to qualify for the play-offs. The Panthers will aim to wrap up their place in the top four with a win and we expect one of the meetings of the season; a great way to complete the League campaign.(SPEEDWAY 4)
POOLE star Krzysztof Kasprzak is hoping to help the Pirates clinch top spot in the Elite League table at one of his former clubs on Monday. Both Poole and rivals Swindon travel to Birmingham next week, and a win for the leaders will guarantee them choice of opponents in the play-off semi-finals, whilst defeat could see them pipped by the Robins two days later.Kasprzak said: I enjoyed my time at Birmingham last year and I like the track so I am looking very much forward to going there on Monday with the Pirates. We want to win there and I think we can win there. It is important for me to score well for Poole as everyone at the club has been so good to me. I have said before that Poole is like my second home and I am very happy here. All I want is to help Poole to win the league.
