'Fast Freddie', Racecar's own kart racing ace Freddie Martin-Dye, hasbeen made a member of the British Racing Driver's Club, one of Britain'smost exclusive clubs, as a 'Rising Star' Member. This is a tremendousboost to his career, and is recognition of Freddie's amazing talent, aswell as his hard work and determination.
Maranello Racing Karts, of Lonato in Italy, also recently announced thatFreddie would be their sole 'works'Formula Intercontinental 'A' driver in this years Italian and EuropeanChampionships. He will also contest the British S1 Championship on aMaranello Kart,with the Ricky Flynn Racing Team. Freddie will alsocontinue with the official factory support of Italian Maxter Engines.
"I am delighted to have been awarded membership of the BRDC," saidFreddie, "It's a great honour for me. I'm also delighted to be drivingfor Maranello Karts this year, as they are one of Europe's Teams."
And just to say 'thank you' to everyone involved, Freddie went to Gardain Italy last week for the first major European race of the season, theWinter Cup. It was Freddie's first Senior race after Juniors last year,and in a field of 115 of Europe's best Formula Intercontinental 'A'drivers, Freddie topped official timed practice, won both his heats, andwon his Semi-Final, to be on the front of the grid for the main Final.Heartbreakingly, however, he had to retire in the Final when his chainsnapped.
