Pirelli Cayman Interseries Endurance Cup Championship Rolls Back To Road Atlanta

Solid Field of Competitors Ready for First Interseries Race in More Than a Month

The Pirelli Cayman Interseries Endurance Cup Championship rolls back into Road Atlanta for the second time this season for the HSR Atlanta Historic Races, September 14 16, where a solid field of Interseries regulars will be part of the action all weekend.

Road Atlanta is the only track that appears twice on this years Pirelli Cayman Interseries schedule and this weekends race follows last Aprils 36th Annual Classic Motorsports Mitty at Road Atlanta.

The weekend schedule includes practice on Friday before an early qualifying session on Saturday at 8:15 a.m. Saturday also features the first two races of the weekend, a sprint at 1:10 p.m. and the weekends featured Louis Chevrolet Historic Enduro that is scheduled for 75 minutes at 4:40 p.m. Sunday wraps up the weekend with the second and final sprint race at 2:45 p.m.

Among the entries to watch at Road Atlanta are Mark Sandridge, who drives his white and red-and-yellow striped No. 49 Cayman S themed after his 1994 IMSA Champion Team Salad Porsche 911 RSR, and reigning Pirelli Cayman Interseries Sportsman Champion Bill Riddell. Riddell drives his RaceLink-prepared green-and-white striped No. 80 Cayman S that pays tribute to a David Piper Racing Porsche 917K.

Sandridge made his Pirelli Cayman Interseries debut at last years Mitty at Road Atlanta and won the pole in its very first race weekend.  Sandridge, who races with longtime coach and co-driver Joe Varde, also won a Saturday sprint at this years Palm Beach opener and finished second in this years endurance race at the Mitty.

Riddell most recent Pirelli Cayman success came in May when he earned not only Interseries class honors but the overall victory in the Badger 200 Enduro at Road America.

Another Cayman Interseries race winner who could make it to victory lane again this weekend is Bob Schneider, who drives a white No. 40 Cayman S modeled after the famous Martini & Rossi Baby Porsche 935. Schneider turned in a typically-strong performance to hit the podium in both of the weekends sprint races at the Mitty and scored his first Interseries victory in last years Daytona finale.  He runs out of the Chris Smith Racing shop that is based not far from Road Atlanta.

CARS (Classic Auto Restoration Services), a top automotive and race shop located in Omaha, Nebraska, returns to Road Atlanta this weekend for its first race since the Mitty.  The team includes the husband-and-wife due of Randy Cassling and Lori Cassling, who is the only woman to score a podium finish in Cayman Interseries competition. Lori Cassling finished second in a race last year at Sebring and is always a crowd pleaser in her popular No. 23 Cayman modeled after the famous Pink Pig Porsche 917/20.

Randy Cassling will be competing at Road Atlanta in a 1997 Porsche Supercup car in another class but it wouldnt be a surprise to see him join his wife or brother Mike Cassling for a shift or two in a Pirelli Cayman entry. Mike Cassling drives an orange No. 2 Cayman S in the colors of the famous Jagermeister Porsches.

Another CARS competitor capable of victory at Road Atlanta is Henry Davis, who drives a silver No. 21 Cayman S that pays tributes to the Martini & Rossi Porsche 917s.

Charles Harris is set for his second Pirelli Cayman start after debuting at the Mitty.  This time around at Road Atlanta he will be driving a yellow No. 55 Cayman S that carries the livery of a David Piper Racing Sandeman Porsche 917K and is another Chris Smith Racing entry.  Keith Carroll drove the same car to a sweep of all three races in the 2011 Mitty.

Tom Bloom also returns to Road Atlanta after competing in the Mitty earlier this year in his white and red No. 16 Cayman S themed after a Dyson Racing Porsche 962..
