Max Chilton appointed as Marussia F1 Team Reserve Driver

Racecar customer Max Chilton - our latest F1 driver client - becomes Marussia F1 Team Reserve Driver - PR below:Max Chilton has today been announced as Reserve Driver for the Marussia F1 Team, with effect from the 2012 Fuji Japanese Grand Prix next month. The Marussia Carlin GP2 race winner will attend the remaining rounds of the 2012 Formula One World Championship in the role of Reserve Driver, taking part in engineering commitments and marketing activity. For 21 year-old Chilton, the role of Reserve Driver at the Marussia F1 Team comes on the back of a very competitive season in the GP2 Series, which has seen the Surrey based driver take two pole positions and a race win in F1s strongest feeder series. Chilton has been a front runner for the duration of the season, and heads into the Singapore season finale this weekend in the fight for third in the drivers standings. Following the close of the GP2 season, Chilton will attend the remaining six F1 rounds, and as well as completing engineering and marketing tasks, will deputise for either race driver in the event that they are unable to race, having just been handed the necessary Super License. Chilton already has experience of Marussia F1 machinery, following the teams Young Driver test at Silverstone last month. The British racer put in a strong performance to impress the team with his pace, feedback and attitude and will now take on a more formal role for the remainder of the 2012 season.

Speaking about his new position, Chilton said, Im delighted to be given this fantastic opportunity to be part of the Marussia F1 Team for the remainder of the 2012 season. My experience with the team at Silverstone for the Young Driver Test was a great taste of how F1 operates, and Im so excited to be able to extend that into a proper working relationship as Reserve Driver at the remaining rounds this year. I feel like my racing has really matured this season and to now be able to combine that with real insight into the engineering activities of an F1 team and complete the level of preparation required of an F1 driver, really moves my career onto the next level. Id like to thank the team once again for this opportunity.Marussia F1 Team Principal John Booth added, In the role of Reserve Driver for the rest of the 2012 season, Max will be exposed to the demands of competing in Formula 1 to the extent that he will be fully prepared to step into the MR01 should it be required. Max has already driven the car at our Young Driver Test, so this is an opportunity for him to build on his experience of working with the engineers as well as the other demands placed on our drivers, including marketing activity. We look forward to having him on board as part of the Marussia F1 Team.
