Jerez and Laguna Seca return to superbikes calendar

 Infront Motor Sports, the operators of the FIM Superbike World Championship, have signed three-year agreements with the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and the Jerez de la Frontera circuit.The first deal will see the US round of the leading superbike series return to the Californian circuit for the first time in eight years. The 2013 race will run from 27th to 29th September while the event will also be on the calendar in 2014 and 2015.Jerez de la Frontera, which was last on the World Superbikes calendar in 1990, will host the first race of its three-year deal from 18th to 20th October next year.Paolo Flammini, the Infront Motor Sports chief executive, said: "We are absolutely delighted to be returning to Laguna Seca for the US Round for the first time since 2004. Over the ten-year period in which we were last there, we witnessed an extraordinary growth in interest and in overall attendance and we are sure that this event will once again become one of the most prestigious on the calendar. The return of Laguna Seca to the Superbike World Championship, with its six competing manufacturers, will definitely be a boost to the championships growth in the US market as California has a special tradition and offers significant opportunities for the motorcycle industry, sponsors and media."Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca chief executive and general manager Gill Campbell added: "We have a strong history with World Superbike and are thrilled to have them commit to a three-year race schedule. Their return to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca solidifies our position as the premier circuit in the US for motorcycle racing."Juan Baquero, the chief executive of the Jerez de la Frontera circuit, said: "We are thrilled with the fact that the Superbike World Championship is landing at Circuito de Jerez from the next season. This shall position the track and the city itself as one of the main references of international motorbike sport."Speaking about Jerez de la Frontera, Flammini said: "Jerez de la Frontera is a circuit that is synonymous with great motorbike racing in general and is situated in a catchment area with an extraordinary sporting tradition and cultural heritage. It gives us great pleasure to return to Jerez for the first time in over twenty years and we are sure that together we will work hard to make the event a great success."
