AASCO Motorsports Ready For South Florida

The transporter left AASCO Motorsports' Southern California shop on Sunday for the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series' Grand Prix of Miami. It was the fifth trek to Florida this year for the Dennis Aase-owned team.

The first two round-trips took them to Daytona International Speedway for the Rolex 24at Daytona. There, in the season-opening race, two early incidentshampered the two-car program's endeavor to win the race. However, after a Herculean effort by the crew, both team cars crossed the finish line.

Saturday's Grand Prix of Miami at Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS) isround-two of the 12-race schedule and the team is continuing to workdiligently to improve its results. With that in mind, Aase opted tofocus on one car this weekend, the No. 16 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of CraigStanton (Long Beach, Calif.) and David Murry (Cumming, Ga.) for thetwo-hour and 45-minute race. The track has been good to the AASCOdrivers; Stanton finished fourth here last year in GT class and Murryhas two top-ten finishes in his only two starts at HMS. Dennis Aase, team owner/manager: "One of the most heated classes isgoing to be this class, Super Grand Sport, every weekend. Every guy onthis team can't wait to get back to the track to compete. Timeconstraints on these weekends are so tight that you can't go back to thegarage to make changes. You have to be ready each session to get themost out of it. We focused on the No. 16 for the race in Miami and weworked on several items to diminish the turn-around time betweenchanges. The whole idea is how good can you be before you start therace? It is our goal to walk out prepared. What happens after that wecan't necessarily control. We are very focused on putting our best footforward at Homestead. We are looking down the road and seeing this as awhole championship season. That is our goal. That is what we are workingtowards."Craig Stanton: "It's a race for the team. They came together andprepared a really, really good race car for David and me. Dennis isconfident and that inspires confidence in the whole team. The guys didsuch a fabulous job at Daytona in bringing us back into the fight thatwe have some momentum coming from there. I like Homestead; it's alwaysbeen a great track for me. David has a lot of experience there as well.I think the fans are going to get a great show. The SGS class is reallycompetitive and should provide some great racing for the fans in thestands and at home watching on the SPEED Channel."David Murry: "I am really looking forward to Homestead. We had a toughstart to the Daytona 24 Hour this year but finished it well. It justgoes to show that anything can and will happen in the racing world. Idon't have any concerns for Homestead or the rest of the year. I'm justlooking for the races to get here. We are going to run our race and workhard at it. The competition is very tough and I am looking ahead to thechallenge. I couldn't ask for a better team or co-driver to do it with."
