The No. 16 AASCO Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup entry driven by Craig Stanton, of Long Beach, Calif. and David Murry, of Cumming, Ga., set the third-quickest time in SGS class in first-round practice yesterday.
Lapping the Homestead-Miami Speedway in one minute, 23.424 seconds, Stanton and Murry finished just behind the Porsches of TPC Racing in the one hour and 45-minute practice session for the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series' Grand Prix of Miami. The team will participate in two practice sessions prior to today's qualifying for Saturday's two hour and 45-minute race.Dennis Aase, team owner/manager: "The car is excellent. We have two carsin front of us but they have a lot of experience here. We'll massage thecars a little tonight and come back a little faster. Today was kind of agift. Usually you come to deals like this and hit it hard on Friday,race on Saturday. This was a nice gift to get to practice today." Craig Stanton: "The banking is pretty wild. But, the car feels goodthere. The car is good; it's quick. The team did a great job of gettingthis car ready in such a short timeframe. We should be quick the rest ofthe weekend."
