Shannons Supercar Showdown winner Jesse Dixon had another trouble free run today in preparation for tomorrows 50th running of the Great Race at Mount Panorama.
The youngest ever Bathurst team had their final practice shakedown, and reported the Shannon/carsales.com.au Commodore should be on the race pace.
We had a run on green tyres this morning, and the car feels really strong. Ive only done about 50 laps around here so far, however my times are coming down and I think if we can stay on the lead lap tomorrow, and pick up what we can, we should have a good result, the 20 year old Gold Coaster said.
Dixon is sharing the drive with 18 year old Cameron Waters, who won last years Shannons Supercar Showdown, however wasnt classified as a finisher last year after lengthy repairs in the pits, following a brush with the wall.
Cams times this year are really good, he was only 2.7 seconds slower than Jamie Whincups fastest qualifying time yesterday afternoon, and after a year racing in the V8 Supercar Development Series, he is really on his game, Dixon commented. We had a small issue with the front steering rack binding up, which was really daunting across the top of the mountain, however the team has made some changes which dramatically improved the feel of the car, and given me a lot more confidence.
The Shannons Supercar Showdown featured 11 contestants in a televised run off to unearth new racing talent. A number of different motorsport disciplines were tested, with the final being a timed lap in the V8 Supercar at Winton Racetrack. Dixon was the fastest overall in the final test and declared the winner, handing him Australias biggest sporting prize, a chance for glory in Australias most prestigious motor race.
At a combined age of 38 years of age, the 2 drivers are one year younger than the Jack Perkins and Shane Price pairing that debuted at Bathurst in 2006.
