Andy Wallace, co-driver of the Howard-Boss Motorsports No. 2 CITGO PontiacCrawford
ON THE LUCK OF THE LEADERS TAKING EACH OTHER"Before you say we were lucky, remember back a few weeks to Daytona where weweren't so lucky. That's the one thing about racing - anything can happen. You need to be there if you want to win. Daytona was a great race, but wegot nothing from it. This was a very good race too. Very, very close all theway to the end. And yes, we really were lucky. But, we struggled all weektrying to get a good balance. Finally for the race it was really good. Ireally want to thank everybody who put this deal together. If you drive inthe car, it's the easy part. You turn the steering wheel. You press thepedal down. How hard can that be? All the people back at the shop who builtthe car did such a good job. Thank you to everybody. We're really, reallyhappy to be here. "
ON WATCHING THE INCIDENT BETWEEN THE NO. 01 & THE NO. 27"I was sitting behind, and I was willing it to happen. But, the Rolex Seriesis very, very close, and the cars are extremely equal. Even in the GT cars, they are quick and it's a real struggle to pass them. But to pass one ofyour own class cars is even harder. So when you get two or three cars at theend of the race all together, there's going to be a little bumping. And, youknow, that was just a racing incident. I sat there behind then, and Icouldn't quite stay with them. I was a little bit slower than them. But Iknew I had to stay really, really close, because they might just bounce offeach other and open the door, so I can get through. And when I saw themgoing down the back straight and onto the front straight, I thought, 'Thisis a great track. I like Homestead a lot.' And of course we all know whathappened. "
Milka Duno, co-driver of the Howard-Boss Motorsports No. 2 CITGO PontiacCrawford"I am very happy. This feels wonderful. We have a very good team. I have tosay thank you to my team, in particular to my sponsor CITGO and my wonderfulteammate Andy Wallace. We were consistent, we were fast and we didn't make amistake. And, we won the race. "
Cort Wagner, co-driver of the G&W Motorsports No. 81 BMW Doran
ON HIS SECOND-PLACE FINISH"The car ran really, really well and we were really nervous because it was abrand new car. This is a testament to the crew. They put together an amazingeffort. Kelly Collins, my co-driver, brought it home and did a great job. What can I say? It's been an amazing effort. It's a great race day. It fellour way. We are happy to have it fall our way. "
Oswaldo Negri, co-driver of the Michael Shank Racing No. 6 Lexus Doran
ON THE CAR"The car was brand new for both of us. It was our first race with the team.We did a test prior to the race where we got to learn the car and try todevelop it a little bit. The team has done a fantastic job. Michael Shankhas done a fantastic job. Lexus has provided us with good power. So here weare third, so it's fantastic. "-more-ON THE RACE"I was running second, and I got hammered from behind by the SunTrust car. Idon't know who was driving it. It just spun me around. I was feeling prettystrong at the beginning of the race, but unfortunately that happens."
Burt Frissell, co-driver of the Michael Shank Racing No. 6 Lexus Doran
ON HIS FINISH"Awesome. What can I say? First prototype race ever and third place. Itdoesn't get any better than that. I'm just thrilled with the whole team.Dale (Wise) gave us a great car, and Lexus gave us a great engine, and wewere able to be in the right spot at the right time to get on the podium. Wewill hopefully move up from here, and get to the top step of the podium this season."
ON SPRINT RACING"Luckily my background in racing has been in open wheel racing, where wejust race from green to checker, so I was comfortable right away with thesprint format. I was a little surprised at how much contact people weremaking out there, and it all seemed to be with our car! I was actuallypraying in the last few laps that the car would make it to the end after Max(Papis) hit me. We had so many alarms going off on the car for all thetemperatures, the race couldn't have ended any sooner for me!"
Boris Said, co-driver of the Prototype Technology Group No. 21 BMW M3
ON HIS GT CLASS VICTORY"Daytona sucked. Daytona, for our team, was pretty embarrassing. It suckedin one word. But the team went to work really hard, rebuilt the cars and gotthem really fast. We came here, we led every practice, we qualified goodand we won the race. So, it was a good weekend. "
Bill Auberlen, co-driver of the Prototype Technology Group No. 21 BMW M3
ON HIS GT CLASS VICTORY"Boris did the hard work. He got it, in the beginning, in the lead. We hadgreat pit stops. The pit stops were really good and quick. Our driver changewas quite good, and then we went out. I had to hunt down a few people. Wegot the lead, and then we strategized. We had a fuel pick up problem thatwas an issue the whole race. We had to come into the pits five or six lapsearlier than our teammates because of it, and if we would have been caughtout in a yellow during that time, we would have gone laps down, so that wasa bad thing. But, we got lucky. This time every thing went well. Everysingle practice session the car was quickest and we led the race and we wonthe race. That is probably more representative of whatPTG is all about than what you saw at Daytona."
David Murry, co-driver of the AASCO Motorsports No. 16 Porsche GT3 Cup
ON HIS GOALS FOR THE RACE"As you know, we were put to the back of the grid because of wing plates. Myjob was to get the Porsche out in the front as fast as we could. To get thebiggest gap we could get, would improve our odds of getting a lap up. If thecaution came out and the pace car is the right way, we could get a lap up.It was my goal to get out there and run without making and mistakes and keepthe car up there for Craig. When the first yellow came out, it gave up a lapup. Craig actually did the hard work. There were guys chasing him down at apretty good rate. "
Craig Stanton, co-driver of the AASCO Motorsports No. 16 Porsche GT3 Cup
ON THE RACE"I got in and we had a little bit of a lead, and with the yellow, we were alap up on from the get go. We felt really fortunate there, and it gave us alittle bit of a lead, which helped us with Randy. Randy was coming for sure.We were able to dip in (to the pits) at about three-fourths into the stintwith about a half hour to go and put five gallons of gas in. We came aroundand were able to pit once again and get two rears. It enabled us to kind ofcruise on at a pretty good clip, but a conservative rate to the end of therace. "
ON THE TEAM"The AASCO team did a great job all weekend. They did a brilliant job atDaytona and continued on with their momentum. I love Homestead; it's a greattrack. It's a really clean facility. I would love to come here for a cuprace. Grand American does a great job."
Jan Magnussen, co-driver of the Doran Lista Racing No. 27 Lexus Doran
ON HIS BATTLE WITH THE NO. 01"I can't believe that Max Papis took me out. He hit me on the front stretchso hard that it broke the suspension; I spun around and just stopped on thegrass; I couldn't get going again. I don't know if a tire is flat or not.He hit me maybe six or seven times, but I didn't once turn the steeringwheel in on him. I passed him briefly on the restart and we had contact;maybe that is why he got emotional and hit me so many times when I gotbeside him again. But there is no excuse for hitting me like he did. Our carwas lacking a little bit of down force. The Rileys had us on speed. Weneed to keep the balance we have and just get some more down force, and we'dbe there."
Didier Theys, co-driver of the Doran Lista Racing No. 27 Lexus Doran
ON THE CAR"We had understeer when I was in the car, but when we did the driver changewe also changed the gurney and the car was better for Jan. The problem wasmainly on the banking; I just couldn't keep up with the leader. Traffic wasnormal when I was in the car. One time I thought I had a puncture, but itwas just a ball of rubber on a tire. When it fell off everything was fine.Other than the understeer, the car was fine."
Terry Borcheller, co-driver of the Bell Motorsports No. 54 KODAK PontiacDoran
ON HIS FINISH"Considering our weekend, we're pretty happy. It's not where we wanted tobe. Forest got hit at the start of the race, so our race started just likeour weekend started with the blown engine in practice. We just had to playcatch-up the whole time. We made a mistake in the pits and lost a lap fixingthe brake light. We have some homework to do before Phoenix."
Forest Barber, co-driver of the Bell Motorsports No. 54 KODAK Pontiac Doran
ON HIS TEAM'S PERFORMANCE"It wasn't pretty, but it was a good result considering how tough a weekendit was. I had a reasonable start, but in the second turn I got hit by onegentleman. I tried to keep it straight but I spun exiting three. Then thewhole rest of the time we were just trying to make up time. The BellMotorsports team did a good job. We just had a tough weekend here."
Max Papis, co-driver of the CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix SabatesNo. 01 Lexus Riley
ON HIS BATTLE WITH THE NO. 27I came into this race knowing that we would have to race really hard andthere would be some good wheel action, but this was a little over the top.I'm not sure what was going on with the No. 27 car, but he hit me hard threeor four times, and the No.02 Lexus Riley bears some pretty nasty marks toprove it. It's unfortunate for the team because the result is not indicativeof how good our cars were today. It was a lot of fun out there and we wereright there at the front where we should be. There are a lot of good thingsthat we can take away from this weekend, and we'll be that much moremotivated for the next race.
Luis Dias, co-driver of the CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix SabatesNo. 02 Lexus Riley
ON HIS PERFORMANCE"I'm very disappointed. The CompUSA Chip Ganassi racing with Felix Sabatesteam gave Jimmy Morales and I such a great car. We fought so hard to get thelead all race long. It was my first sports car race, and it was just soexciting. Passing in all that traffic was a new experience for me, and itwas hard to get the timing just right, but we managed to get to the front ofthe field and that was where we should have stayed. After the yellow, withjust 12 laps left, my inexperience got the best of me. I lost traction, andslid wide in turn one. There just wasn't any room for mistakes and I learneda lot today. It will never happen.
Chip Ganassi, team owner of the CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with FelixSabates No. 01 Lexus Doran & the CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with FelixSabates No. 02 Lexus Doran
ON THE OUTCOME OF THE RACE"It certainly was an exciting race, but not quite the finish we expected.I'm very proud of all our drivers and the entire CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racingwith Felix Sabates team. We saw a lot of things that we liked and that wecan build on. The team came prepared to race and proved we would becompetitive from the start. With two poles now and both cars running up inthe top five for most of the race, we showed that we could have finishedfirst but we must first finish.
Michael Shank, team owner of the Michael Shank Racing No. 6 Lexus Doran
ON THE RACE"Very tough day for us, we got behind early when another car spun us, but itwas a good finish for us. And then at the end, everybody but the pace carwas hitting us! Now we have a fourth place finish and a third place finishin just our first two starts, and I think there is a lot more to come. Theseguys (Frisselle and Negri) showed they can run with the fastest guys outthere, so we are looking for more. We are also proud to be the highestfinishing Lexus, and hopefully we can get them to the top step of the podiumsoon."
