Its snow problem for Rees in Bournemouth

Dorian Rees claimed another respectable result to add to his motorsport resume following his recent visit to Bournemouth. Contesting the Rallye Sunseeker the Welshman finished the two day event in seventh place overall. Also following home the works supported driver, Brendan Crealey, to claim second place in the Group N showroom class. The Llanybydder driver, who was very keen to compete on the South of England event to keep his options open for the coming season. Contesting the first two rounds of both the British Rally Championship and the ANCRO series, the results being a deciding factor on which series to continue. The Rallye Sunseeker the opening round of the latter. Rees competing in his Group N Subaru Impreza had planned to to take things easy over the first couple of stages, running on Pirelli tyres for the first time in his short but successful career. At the overnight halt after two stages Rees was as low as 43rd at one point and was still unsure how the new tyre would behave on gravel.Despite his low overnight position Rees and his regular Aberystwyth co-driver, Patrick Walsh, decided to take a steady run through to the first service of the day, which would give the pair a total of seven stages to assess their progress. On arrival at service after what Rees had declared his pace as "okay", the pair had moved up to an overall position of eighth place.   "The first three stages of the morning were covered in snow and ice and conditions were very slippery in places, so we have taken it easy. The tyres seem to be working well and it seems to show in our progress up the leader board."Feeling a little more confident with the tyres the Welsh pair upped their pace to improve on their position and move up another placing throughout the day, setting several top ten times and keeping with the pace of the World Rally Cars among the 130 strong entry. Rees eventually finishing just 13.3 seconds behind sixth place man, Crealey, and finish second Subaru driver behind event winner Roger Duckworth.Rees, who is now entering his fourth season of rallying was pleased to be among the top ten at the finish."It's an encouraging result for me as there was a host of competitive drivers in our class and on the rally with far more experience than myself that were caught out by the conditions. I felt I could get into the top ten if things went to plan, but thought it would be a tougher battle than it turned out. To keep within striking distance of Brendan has also given us confidence for the ANCRO series and should make for another interesting rally in Wales in April."The Subaru pair will now contest the Astra Stages National Rally in North Wales on Saturday 3rd April. The event will take place among more familiar territory for Rees having contested several rallies in the past.
