POOLE promoter Matt Ford is calling for his side to show pride after their Grand Final disappointment to gain consolation in the Knockout Cup.The Pirates return to Wimborne Road just 48-hours after their aggregate defeat against Swindon, when they face Peterborough in the first leg of the Cup semi-final. All children will be admitted to the meeting free of charge.Ford said: Pride enough should fire the lads up. Swindon were good value for their play-off final win. You could see what the success meant to their fans. They had waited a long time for that title and fair play to them. But I want the Poole fans to have something to celebrate. We have won the Elite Shield, enjoyed a remarkable record breaking unbeaten run and here we are now at the latter stages of the KO Cupan opportunity for some silverware, a piece that we have become quite attached to over recent seasons.(SPEEDWAY 2)
IPSWICH face a busy run of vital fixtures this week as they take on Somerset in the League Cup Final and then Newcastle in the Premier League KO Cup Final. The Witches trail the Rebels by 14-points from the first leg of the former competition, and their two home matches will be staged in the space of 48-hours on Thursday and then Saturday.Manager Pete Simmons said: Its certainly not going to be easy to pull this back but we have hit 15+ point victories on several occasions this year so it is do-able, but we will need a bit of luck and some great support from our fans to cheer the lads on if we are to pull it off.We will need a decent lead to take to Brough Park on Sunday but with the Witches being the only team to take a league point from the Geordies at home this season I quite fancy our chances there and for us to lift the cup on Sunday evening.(SPEEDWAY 3)
DUDLEY will take a 14-point lead into the second leg of the National League Play-Off Final against Mildenhall on Wednesdaywith the decider to be staged at Kings Lynn. The Heathens overcame the early loss of heat-leader Tom Perry with a broken thumb and scaphoid, with Ashley Morris (15+1) and reserve Darryl Ritchings (14+2) playing starring roles in their 51-37 win at Monmore Green.Manager Will Pottinger said: I probably would have taken a 14 point lead with a full team, so to get that with only five riders is an excellent effort and it puts is in a good position for Wednesday.I think we have got a better chance with the meeting not being at Mildenhall. It's a bit more neutral at Kings Lynn and obviously they haven't got home track advantage, so that should work in our favour.(SPEEDWAY 4)
MILDENHALL ended an eventful night at Monmore Green by retaining the National League Knockout Cup against Dudley. The Fen Tigers 61-33 first leg victory left them in the driving seat, and they restricted the home side throughout the second leg, which the Heathens won 41-32 on the night with a halt being called after twelve races.Co-promoter Kevin Jolly said: It was hard work, we dropped some points we shouldn't have and the conditions didn't help both teams. We'll sit the boys down before the (play-off final) second leg and get them fired up again. The final is far from over. We go well around Lynn and it promises to be a cracking second leg with everything still to play for. It was also brilliant to retain the KO Cup at the end of a long and tough night.
