Podium for Freddie in Sarno, Italy

'Fast Freddie', kart racing ace Freddie Martin-dye, went to Sarno International Circuit in Naples, Italy, for the first round of the Italian Championship. Despite having never seen the track before, Freddie qualified 8th after official (wet) qualifying, and the won his first heat from grid 8 - his first time on the track in the dry! He came 2nd in his second heat, to qualify on pole for the final. The final turned out to be just his second session in the dry, and with a kart that proved to have no balance, he finished on the podium in third. His rear left tyre was completely gone, as he had no grip on the back end. His Italian Maranello Team were delighted with him, and all reckoned that with just a little testing beforehand and a prior knowledge of the track, he would certainly have gone better!Next weekend Freddie is racing in Wigan in the S1 British Championship Round 1 at the Three Sisters circuit, and Parma, Italy, the following week for the Margutti Trophy.
