Lynch aims to end on a high
Westhoughton-based racer Tony Lynch will seek to end his 2012 campaign on a high this weekend when the Swift Sport Rallycross Championship season draws to a close at Croft. The Lucas Oil Team Geriatric driver heads to the North East seeking to secure a top three championship finish for the third successive season in the highly-competitive series, while he also retains an outside chance of ending the season with the title to his name.Despite being one of the quickest drivers over the course of the season, a run of bad luck has left Tony eleven points away from championship leader Chris Mullenand six behind Johny Bean - going into the season finale, with a maximum of 21 available from the final event. With an eleven point advantage over fourth-placed James Knight-Coney in the championship, Tonys focus at Croft will be on ensuring he maintains his impressive record of never finishing outside the top three in the Swift standings while also ensuring he is in the ideal position to take advantage of any opportunities that come his way.I cant remember a season where weve had as much bad luck as weve had this year, he said. Its really put us on the back foot a lot going to Croft but the fact remains that Im still contention for the title and I wont stop pushing.Eleven points to Chris is a big gap with one race left to run, and my only target for the weekend is to go for the win and well see what happens. I know Im quick and we have set Fastest Time of the Day a lot in the past, so all I can do is try and take the maximum points available and what will be, will be.The most important thing is to make sure we at least maintain our championship position as it would be a real achievement to finish inside the top three for the third season in a row. This year hasnt been an easy one but hopefully we can end it on a high.Prior to the season finale, highlights of the penultimate round of the year at Pembrey will air on Saturday evening at 10pm on Motors TV (Sky channel 413).
