Broken disc scuppers G-Drive chances of Shanghai WEC podium

It was at the International Shanghai Circuit, in China, that G-Drive Racing by SIGNATECH-NISSAN finished the inaugural season of the FIA WORLD ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP. With some fine performances this year- 4th LMP2 in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (9th overall) , a podium in Silverstone and LMP2 lap record in Fuji, Nelson Panciatici, Pierre Ragues and Roman Rusinov, who lost out on a win in Bahrain (penalty due to a problem with the lighting on the race number), saw once again their hopes of victory go up in smoke further to a broken brake disque, just when they had moved up into second place in the LMP2 classification.

For the final round of the World Championship, the G-Drive Racing by SIGNATECH NISSAN team had opted for a staggered strategy on hard tyres, in the aim of hopefully saving one pit stop during the six-hour race. This choice meant sacrificing qualifying, turning the session into another practice session for the race, which explained their ninth position on the starting grid. But from the first stint, the Bourges-based team realised that their strategy was not adapted to the track conditions, and decided to go over to soft tyres. The pit stops were very quick, and allowed the crew of the nr 26 ORECA 03-Nissan to quickly move up the field. After ninety minutes, Pierre Ragues handed the car over to Roman Rusinov in 7th position, who, after a superb double stint, climbed up to second position by mid-race. Nelson Panciatici took the wheel for a triple stint, and maintained this position until the final third of the race. Having just regained second position, Nelson Panciatici was forced to return to the pits to change the left front brake disc, which had broken, certainly from debris. During the stop, the nr 26 ORECA 03-Nissan lost a total of 3 minutes 50 seconds, and rejoined in 7th position, maintaining that position until the end.

Philippe Sinault : " I am certainly disappointed with this season, as at heart I am competitive, and we are here to win. Throughout the season we have always been fighting for the podium, and even for victory. We have shown our level of performance over and over again. 2012 leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. To have a good season, you also need some success, and this year, we were unluckyWe made a late start to the season with the nr 26. Its a first stage, and I hope to continue with this crew next year, as they proved to be one of the most competitive of the field. I would like to thank my team, for their fantastic work, but also the drivers for their performances, their motivation and their team spirit, and also to thank our partners, without whom we would not have been able to enter in this fantastic adventure !"

Pierre Ragues : " The season has been frustrating as we had a very well-balanced driver crew, and a good technical package. We were regularly fighting for the podium. Unfortunately, we were not lucky. Our last race was a summary of our season Except for Silverstone, as soon as we were close to the podium, it slipped away

Nelson Panciatici :" I would have liked to finish the season with another podium, but thats racing, and we have to accept it ! This year, we have always been fighting for the podium, and even more, we only need a bit of success to turn it into reality. I was able to join one of the best LMP2 teams, which always gave us an excellent car, and which really helped me in my apprenticeship. The best moment will be the finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which was a magical moment, and our podium at Silverstone with my team-mates Pierre and Roman. Ive really enjoyed endurance racing !"

Roman Rusinov : " I would like to thank the whole G-Drive Racing by SIGNATECH NISSAN team, which remained competitive and concentrated until the end of the season. We have had some good performances, we just needed to turn them into a win. Luck is also part of success, and this year was not for us. We know that the basics are good, and we are already preparing for 2013 which, considering this years performances, make me very confident. "
