They were fantasticheroes the lot of them. Hats off to Somerset, they came to the Eddie Wright Raceway and rode it better than they ever had before and pushed us all the way.It wasnt decided until the last lap because Richard Hall was all over our lads. Its also fantastic for British Speedway, because meetings like this one give the sport a shot in the arm.

SOMERSET promoter Debbie Hancock put aside the disappointment of an agonising one-point play-off Final defeat to congratulate winners Scunthorpe. The Rebels put up a stubborn defence of their five-point first leg aggregate lead but just missed out on their first-ever Premier League title at the Eddie Wright Raceway.Hancock said: Many congratulations are due to all associated with Scunthorpe, the promotion, the riders and their fans on their League Championship title. Obviously we are disappointed not to be champions ourselves, we gave it our best shot and I could no ask no more of our riders but unfortunately it wasnt to be.Both legs made for a pulsating play-off Final, one that I feel was a credit to the Premier League with both sides more than playing their part in making it one to remember.

RYE House promoter Len Silver has paid tribute to his own riders and also those of Berwick for enabling Sundays Premier Challenge Trophy Final to be competed. The Rockets took the silverware with a 58-35 win on their home circuit for a ten-point aggregate victory, with the meeting continuing despite rain which started around 30-minutes before the first race.Silver said: As it continued heavily and steadily all evening the track became more and more difficult to negotiate. Yet both sets of riders never complained or hesitated and indeed raced at full throttle right through to the final Heat 15 with race after race being contested in tight finishes. For me, although it was a pleasure for the Rockets to take the trophy, it was a victory for both teams and it would have been fitting for the result to have been a draw. I must also thank and praise the large number of fans who braved the weather with many standing in the rain, most without umbrellas, and voicing their pleasure at the exciting event that unravelled on the tricky surface.

MILDENHALL will parade their impressive trophy haul at West Row on Wednesday when they bring the curtain down on a memorable campaign against Stoke in the National Trophy. The Fen Tigers clinched the National League on neutral territory at Kings Lynn last week but major efforts have been made to ensure their own circuit is raceable for the season finale.Co-promoter Michael Lee said: Stadium owner Dave Coventry has been brilliant. He is going to blade all the mud and gunk off the track, and once he has done that he has tons of new and dry shale ready to lay, so everything will be back to normal. He wants to get this meeting on as much as anyone and we can't thank him enough. The only thing that might beat us now is weather on the day, but the forecast isn't too bad so we should be fine.
