The organiser of the Le Mans 24 Hour race has unveiled plans for an Asian Le Mans Series beginning in 2013.The sports car championship will feature six events, three in China and one each in South Korea, Japan and Indonesia.The Autombile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) has contracted Chinese-based agency S2M Group to promote the series. S2M has already worked with ACO on races in China over the past two years.ACO also announced that TS Motorsport, a Shanghai-based company, will 'look after the logistics and race operating activities of the races'.Two key broadcast contracts for the series have been signed, with ESPN Star Sports and Eurosport Asia-Pacific.
Pierre Fillon, the ACO president, said: The launch of a series of endurance races on the Asian continent bearing the name and embodying the values of the Le Mans 24 Hours is an essential step in the context of the Automobile Club de lOuests development on the international scene."Mark Thomas, the managing director of S2M, added: "In reality, today marks the start of much hard work to create a successful Asian Le Mans Series for many years to come."However we are confident with the team and partners we are bringing together we can cement the series as one of the preeminent motor sports properties in Asia.The ACO, in collaboration with world motorsport's governing body, the FIA, has just completed the first season of the World Endurance Championship.
