Just a fortnight after announcing its GT4 racing version of the Toyota GT86 sports car, Buckingham-based motorsport engineering company GPRM has confirmed the first sale of one of the new cars as well as strong interest from several other prospective purchasers.
The first chassis has been secured by a British buyer. It is a driver new to GT racing, said GPRM director Gary Blackham, and he wishes to embark on a test and development programme in the opening months of 2013, learn some circuits and look at his options before committing to a championship.
We are very pleased by the level of interest being shown in the GT86, both from UK buyers and from those in mainland Europe, and we hope very much to be able to announce further sales in the coming weeks.
GPRMs Toyota GT86 is intended to be a cost efficient, entry-level endurance car. The company embarked on the GT4 project immediately after the Britcar24 in September, where the new Toyota sports car made a successful UK race debut.
The GT4 car will offer a turbocharged, four-cylinder engine to give competitive power somewhere in the region of 350bhp. However the most attractive aspect of the car could be its affordable price, with GPRM confident it can deliver a race-ready chassis for less than 100,000 (not including tax or donor car).
