Tutumlu overcomes adversity in Spanish GT

Isaac Tutumlu has had a troublesome weekend during the last meeting of the Spanish GT / IBER GT championshipcelebrating its races with  the International GT Open- where his main target was to clinch a good result after his good performance in Valencia.

With almost forty cars coming from all over Europe, Tutumlu was aiming for shining at Circuit de Catalunya. Unfortunately, different circumstances prevented him to fight for the results previously expected with the Drivex Porsche 911 RSR GT2 shared with Vctor Jimnez.

On Friday, Tutumlu completed a good free practice sessions, being a midfielder and already on top places in the national GT championship, focusing on his main target: to set-up properly his Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, a car always difficult to drive. His best laps of 1:52.629 and 1:51.527 were widely improved on Saturdays qualifying session. Tutumlu posted a best lap of 1:49.886, only nine tenths slower than Raymond Narac, a Porsche France factory driver. In Q2, his teammate Jimnez wasnt so competitive, setting a time of 1:52.198.

Race one, 70 minutes long on Saturday, was started with the Kurdish driver of Kurdish ancestry on 11th row of the starting grid and 5th in the Spanish GT / IBER GT championship. As usual Tutumlu made a great start, overtaking some rivals. But on lap six a rival clashed with him damaging his car. It was a shame, because I felt quite good with the Porsche. I was battling against Joel Camathias, but he didnt leave me room and, despite my efforts to avoid collision, it wasnt possible and crashed, Drivex pilot said.

For Sunday, his teammate Jimnez started the race but he spun and lost three laps at the beginning. We chose wet tyres but the track got dry quite quickly. When I began my stint, my lap times were only a second slower than Porsche factory drivers. Not bad with a damaged car after an incident, he explained afterwards, finishing 2nd among GT2 cars in Spanish GT / IBER GT championship.

His next commitment in Erbil next weekend.
