Eighteen drivers to participate in the Speed Week Revival
Racing, demonstrations and school visits form part of once in a lifetime trip
Eighteen Formula Kart Stars drivers are preparing for the trip of a lifetime as the Formula One Management backed Championship and the Bahamas Speed Week Revival get ready to showcase karting to the people of the Caribbean.
While the very first World Karting Championship may have been held in Nassau, capital city of the Bahamas, in 1959, currently there is no karting industry to speak of in the renowned tourist and holiday destination. However with a twelve day trip packed full of racing, demonstrations and work with local schools, FKS and the organisers of the Bahamas Speed Week Revival are hoping to change that.
Eight drivers from the 2012 MSA British Cadet Championship and ten Senior Rotax drivers plus their mechanics will leave the UK on November 23rd and will spend the following two weeks bringing the kind of excitement and professionalism associated with the pinnacle of British karting to a completely new audience.
Beginning with some racing on a purpose built kart track on November 25th, the FKS drivers can expect a large and enthusiastic crowd who will include children from specially nominated schools, each of which will have their own nominated FKS driver.
Once the dust settles FKS will then spend time visiting local schools where they will give some of the local children an opportunity to build their own box karts and get their first chance to get a close look at the sort of ultra modern racing karts so familiar to British drivers.
After several days of rest and recuperation on and around Bahamas numerous sandy beaches Formula Kart Stars will then join hundreds of fellow petrol heads for two more days of spectacular action as first the FKS drivers power their karts up the Bahamas Speed Week Revival Hill climb course and then take to the specially designed BSWR car circuit for more action.
While the BSWR annually attracts some of the worlds rarest and most expensive classic sportscars, FKS Championship Director Carolynn Hoy believes the addition of karts to the 2012 event will add an extra highlight for the thousands of spectators expected to attend.
I am thrilled to be able to offer this prize to our drivers, says Hoy, who has already overseen the shipment of the FKS karts to Nassau. I am extremely grateful to the organisers of the Bahamas Speed Week Revival for their efforts in securing the funding to make this trip possible and I am convinced that everyone who will be going with FKS will have a fantastic experience.
Not only will our drivers get an opportunity to showcase their skills in front of a totally new audience but they will also be acting as role models for FKS and our sport as a whole and they have the opportunity to inspire a whole generation of young people in the Bahamas, many of whom may not have even seen a proper racing kart before.
