The excitement is mounting as the 2004 Wales Rally GB takes shape and the announcement of the provisional route includes thrilling changes for competitors, marshals and spectators alike. A new stage has been created in Epynt, Powys and the new date in September means conditions will be very different in 2004, bringing extra challenges for the teams. Covering 18 stages of rugged forest tracks and awe-inspiring Welsh countryside, Wales Rally GB looks set to be one of the most anticipated events on the World Rally Championship.
The ever-popular SuperSpecial stages, in Cardiff Bay will start and finish Wales Rally GB, this year. Combining superb head-to-head races and track entertainment, the SuperSpecials are the perfect way to kick-off and end the event on a real high-note. Spectators will be thrilled to see some of the world’s greatest drivers race one another on the specially designed circuit and enjoy the on-track entertainment.
As part of the new route, the challenging Rhondda stage has been given a new lease of life to keep the teams on their toes. This year the Rhondda stage includes a combination of the best of last year’s Resolfen and Rhondda stage, condensing the excitement and competition into one fantastic stage.
It’s not all change at the 2004 Wales Rally GB; spectator favourites Walter’s Arena and Margam Park will be making a welcome return, bringing the action into the heart of the Welsh forest. The Swansea Rally Centre at Felindre will be the focal point for all the teams during this year’s event, especially with the introduction of Parc Ferme based in the Service Park so fans can get up close and personal with the teams at the start and finish of each day.
Andrew Coe Chief Executive, Rally GB Ltd comments: “We have included a number of exciting changes in this year’s route, increasing the thrills and competitive element of the event. By combining Rhondda and Resolfen, we are bringing fans and competitors a streamlined route that will take the teams to the top of their game.
“With spectacular favourites like the SuperSpecials and Walter’s Arena taking centre stage again, this looks set to be a year to remember. We work hard to maintain the quality of the event, whilst bringing freshness and variety to ensure the longevity of what has become one of the most exciting legs of the World Rally Championship.”
