GRAND-AM Road Racing announced today that Roger Bailey has been named the sanction bodys chief appellate officer, taking the position vacated by the retirement of John Bishop.

In his role, Bailey will serve as the final judge of appeals of any GRAND-AM decision or penalty.

Bailey won the British Formula 3 championship with Jackie Stewart in 1964 and helped build the Le Mans-winning Ford GT40 Mk IIs in 1966. He helped build McLarens engines that dominated the SCCA Can-Am and won the Indianapolis 500 in 1974 and 1976. He was also IMSAs technical director from 1980-84.

For 26 years, Bailey ran open-wheel racings primary support series, successively known as the American Racing Series, Firestone Indy Lights and the IRL Indy Pro Series.

Bishop held the position since the founding of GRAND-AM in 1999. He co-founded the International Motor Sports Association with William H.G. France in 1969, and ran Americas leading sports car sanctioning body through the sale of the organization in 1990.

GRAND-AMs 2013 season opens with the 51st Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 26-27 at Daytona International Speedway.
