Sprint steps in to replace Budweiser Shootout

Nascar primary title sponsor Sprint will replace Budweiser as the title sponsor of the season-opening Nascar race after signing the deal with the Daytona International Speedway.

The US mobile network's new deal means the event, a 75-lap race featuring previous winners and pole winners from the last Nascar season, will change its name from the Budweiser Shootout to the Sprint Unlimited.

Although no contractual details have been released, the deal is likely to be worth a low seven-figure sum annually.

As part of the new deal, various activation initiatives are being undertaken, including opportunities for the public to serve in nominal race control positions, such as honorary starter or grand marshal.

The race will take place on 16th February this year.

Following last year's race, Anheuser-Busch announced it had taken a new package of sponsorship rights with Daytona, dropping the Budweiser shootout.

Instead, Budweiser has title rights to Speedweeks, the ten-day practice period before the Daytona 500, and the Duels, the qualifying rounds before the Daytone 500 that set the majority of the qualifying positions.
