(SPEEDWAY 1)KENT’S new National League team will be nicknamed the Kings - as preparations continue to bring the sport to the Central Park Stadium at Sittingbourne. The club plan to launch on Bank Holiday Monday May 6, and have confirmed the experienced David Mason as team captain with John Sampford as manager alongside his Premier League commitments with Rye House. On the naming decision, promoter Roger Cearns said: “There were a number of suggestions and we thank everyone who entered names but we liked Kings as Kent had its own Kings in centuries past, and we could keep the Kent Invicta logo we had been using but with the addition of a crown. “There is also the connection with Kings in the County with Rochester and Leeds Castles, and the Cathedral at Canterbury. We are keen to represent the whole county hence why we are known as Kent.”
