It is with great regret that the organisers of the Mount Stuart Motorsport Classic today announce the postponement of the 2004 event until summer 2005. Following the overwhelming success of the 2003 Mount Stuart Motorsport Classic large numbers of competitors and spectators have been predicted for 2004, but a shortage of ferries from the mainland to the Island of Bute has left the organisers with no choice but to make this decision. Mount Stuart Events has not been guaranteed the required level of support from the Caledonian MacBrayne Ferry Company to satisfy the requirements of what will be an extremely busy weekend with anticipated visitor numbers of 15,000 explained Johnny Bute, Event Founder. "Obviously we are extremely disappointed to have to make this announcement. We have been making some fantastic progress with the 2004 event - scheduled for July 31st/1st August - in terms of attracting superb cars and drivers. However, following a meeting with Caledonian MacBrayne, the company which operates the ferry crossings to the island, we were left with no other choice.
One of the charms of the Mount Stuart Motorsport Classic is that it is held on the beautiful Isle of Bute, but the smooth running of transportation is also a major factor when organising an island event. Due to circumstances beyond our control we are not confident that we can provide this in 2004 Mount Stuart Events has been assured by Caledonian MacBrayne that the situation will improve considerably in 2005 and, in the meantime, the organisers will be working hard over the next fifteen months to ensure that the 2005 event is a monumental success and making up for the considerable disappointment of this year's postponement.
