Powerful saloon cars are back in vogue at the first meeting of the year at the Castle Combe Circuit this Saturday.
For the first time, the VSR V6 and Super Silhouette championship is visiting the West Country circuit, the spectacular Kevlar bodied machines promising some spectacular racing.
The championship features a variety of body styles in two classes, including VW Corrado, Audi TT, Peugeot 205 and 206 and even a Toyota Avensis. Under the skin though is a super-strong spaceframe chassis and either a 2 litre four cylinder engine or the venerable but lusty 2.9 litre Ford V6. Local interest is in the shape of Mark Fennell from Bristol and Glastonbury's Keith White, both using the Corrado bodied cars in the Super Silhouette class.
Another impressive entry for Saturday's meeting is former Castle Combe Special GT champion, Nigel Mustill from Salisbury in his Nissan Skyline R34. The 2.7 litre car was built for the Nurburgring 24 hours for well known professional race driver, Roland Asche, so should be awesome in Mustill's capable hands. It will be the only four wheel drive car in the Special GT race, so expect it to make a stunningly fast getaway from the lights.
Saturday's action starts at 8.30 am with qualifying, racing getting under way from 1.15pm.
Admission prices are £10 for adults, £5 for OAPs, £2-50 for paddock transfer, whilst accompanied children under 15 are admitted free.
