The Spanish driver made his debut in the Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo at Paul Ricard where, despite difficult weather conditions due to rain and fog, his performance had an increasing pace. At the end his times were quite close to those with years of experience.
Javier Ibran debuted in the Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo last weekend where, after two collective tests held at Vallelunga and Misano, Valencias driver hadnt an easy start due to heavy rain and thick fog. However, even with less experience at the wheel of the Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo than his rivals, managed to improve session by session and, on Sunday, his times were rather competitive. After finishing 18th in both free practice sessions, in dry conditions, Ibrn had to cope with rain in first qualifying session on Saturday. But the main problem wasnt rain but fog, and drivers could barely see anything. The driver from Valencia, still discovering and learning how his new vehicle works, set a time of 2:49.561, to start 9th on the starting grid. It was a troublesome session, because I had just two laps to qualify the car, because there were plenty of yellow flags over the course of the session. In addition, when I set my best lap, I made a mistake so my time may be improved, Ibrn explained.
In the first race, taking place on Saturday afternoon, Ibrn ended up 18th after eleven laps driving his Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo, a very difficult one for everyone on track. His main target was to reach the end and put experience under his belt for the following races. Race two, scheduled early on Sunday, meant another step forward for Ibrn.
A bit more accustomed to the Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo, he was able to finish 15th and posting lap times closer to frontrunners. Then, third and final race, was started in the afternoon and its endurance format50 minutes and mandatory pit-stop- was a true challenge for drivers. Ibrn overtook several drivers and reached the end in 13th place, quite close to top-ten places in his first outing. It was a very demanding weekend for everyone because qualifying sessions were cancelled and races were a sort of lottery and not a proper competition. Anyway I focus on positive feedback, we made important progress, even when this crazy weekend was the worst possible scenario to debut. Im sure our improvement will be even better at Nurburgring, Ibran finally said.
The German weekend is scheduled on 1-2 June.
