Two more Formula Ford wins for Cammish
Now its eight out of eight for Yorkshire hotshot Dan Cammish and the JTR Mygale teamStrong second-place performance from Andrew Richardson a highlight of the days Thruxton racingThird circuit of the 2013 season and no sign of Dan Cammish and JTR losing their winning habit. The Leeds-based 24-year-old led both of todays Thruxton rounds of the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain from pole position to chequered flag to further extend his commanding championship lead.Andrew Richardson gave Cammish a good run for his money in the opener, and went on to secure a hard-won second place, with Harrison Scott and Juan Rosso the other podium visitors.Round 7Although Cammish duly recorded his seventh race win of the season, his rivals served notice on the JTR driver that his stranglehold on the victory spoils may not continue for much longer. Despite very limited experience of Thruxton in a single-seater, Richardson Racing Mygale driver Andy Richardson gave pole-starter Cammish a good run for his money, coming close to depriving Dan of the lead away from the startline, and he held on to finish a strong second.Cammish admitted that he had to call on every ounce of his bravery to keep Richardson behind: The first lap was close. Andy got off the line really quickly; I thought I had got off the line well but he did even better than me, and he was right behind me into the Complex and I had to go defensive and locked up the brakes quite hard. I managed to stay ahead there but he was towing me all the way down to Church, and I knew that if I let him get anywhere near me through there he would draft past me, so I held my breath and went flat-out through Church and managed to make it stick.Richardson lost second to Falcon Motorsports Finnish pilot Lassi Halminen at the Club chicane at the end of lap four but was returned to the position five laps later when Halminen pitted with an alternator problem. Richardson crossed the line 5.2s adrift of the winner to claim not only second place but also the Scholarship class win. This is the hardest circuit I have been to, said Andy. The six laps I did in qualifying this morning are the sum total of my experience around here in a single-seater, but despite that I made a great start and was able to go quicker and quicker as the tyres came in. Towards the end I made a couple of mistakes which allowed the others to catch me, but overall Im really pleased.Falcons young star Harrison Scott challenged Richardson hard all the way and had a battle on his hands keeping Jamuns Juan Rosso at bay. Juan, Andy and I had a really good battle, said Harrison. A couple of times I left the door open and let Rosso through and it needed some good overtaking to get back past him. It was a really tough race and Im pleased to be on the podium.Rosso had to settle for fourth, just ahead of his team-mate Luke Williams, who lost a lot of ground at the start after a collision with the JTR car of Camren Kaminsky through the complex. Everybody braked through there but me, said Luke, and unfortunately we made contact. Im not sure why everybody braked because its usually flat through there. Williams fight back from 12th to fifth was a highlight of the race.Fred Martin-Dye battled with flat-spotted tyres for much of the distance and was pleased with sixth, his best finish so far in the SWB Motorsport Sinter. Jamuns Nico Maranzana deprived JTRs Sam Brabham of seventh at mid-distance, with Kaminsky battling back from the rear after his lap-one incident to make it to ninth at the line, ahead of James Abbotts Radical Sinter, early spinner George Blundell and championship newcomer David Wagner, who lost ground on the final lap with a mechanical issue after holding ninth.Round 8After his scare on the opening lap of the preceding race, Cammish made no mistakes at the start of round eight to secure a healthy and commanding lead from the outset. By the end of the opening lap the JTR Mygale driver was 2.9 seconds ahead of his closest pursuer, and by the third tour was 8.6s in the clear.Though he backed off to preserve his Dunlops towards the end of the race, Cammish once again had no serious worries as he cruised to his eighth straight win of the season and an increased championship lead. It was a copybook display of measured progress to a 5.1-second victory. As in all previous seven races of the short Dunlop MSA Formula Ford season, the outcome for the lesser placings was in doubt almost all the way to the flag. There was a fast and furious battle for second disputed initially by Scott and Williams, and then by Scott and Rosso.Williams Jamun Mygale pushed Scotts Falcon machine back to third on lap two, with Martin-Dyes SWB Sinter following Luke through for third for a few laps. Scott bounced back to regain the place from Martin-Dye and then, on lap seven, took second back from Williams. Harrison had no answer, however, for the late-race pace of Jamuns Rosso, who swept past for second place five laps from the flag.Scott was far from disappointed with his second podium of the day, however. It was a massive battle. Juan got me into the Complex, and I didnt want to try to get him back because I was thinking that theres another race tomorrow. Im very pleased - another podium is great at this stage of the season.Rosso was delighted with his progress from fourth on the grid: It was really good fun with all the guys; a really nice race. I love to race like this. After his tribulations at Donington and in the first Thruxton race, Camren Kaminsky bounced back to secure fourth, having dropped as low as ninth early on. It was kind of like a chess game, said the American. I was able to make some nice passes, then lost a couple and had to plan my moves to get back.Nico Maranzana took fifth ahead of George Blundell, who put in a solid drive in the Enigma Mygale, with Williams fading to seventh on the final lap, ahead of Sinter men Martin-Dye and James Abbott. Sam Brabham survived a mid-race moment to take ninth ahead of Andrew Richardson, who had to pit to remove grass cuttings from his radiators after an off-track excursion in avoidance of Brabhams spinning Mygale.David Wagner again suffered mechanical dramas, as did Lassi Halminen, who failed to make the start after his first-race problems.Provisional resultsDunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great BritainRound 7 (of 30) 4 May 2013, Thruxton15 laps / 35.34 miles1 Dan CAMMISH / GBR/Leeds JTR/Mygale 18m 29.678s / 114.64mph2 Andrew RICHARDSON / GBR/Lincoln Richardson/Mygale +5.249s3 Harrison SCOTT / GBR/Althorne Falcon/Mygale +6.245s4 Juan ROSSO / ARG Jamun/Mygale +9.260s5 Luke WILLIAMS / GBR/Thirsk Jamun/Mygale +18.794s6 Fred MARTIN-DYE / GBR/Shamley Green SWB/Sinter +20.936sScholarship class 1 Richardson; 2 Scott; 3 Martin-Dye.Fastest lap Cammish 1m 12.412s / 117.12mph Est RecRound 815 laps / 35.34 miles1 Dan CAMMISH / GBR/Leeds JTR/Mygale 18m 34.520s / 114.15mph2 Juan ROSSO / ARG Jamun/Mygale +5.153s3 Harrison SCOTT / GBR/Althorne Falcon/Mygale +7.003s4 Camren KAMINSKY / USA JTR/Mygale +12.513s5 Nico MARANZANA / ARG Jamun/Mygale +13.021s6 George BLUNDELL / GBR/Grays Enigma/Mygale +13.511sScholarship class 1 Scott, 2 Maranzana, 3 Martin-DyeFastest lap Cammish 1m 12.337s / 117.25mph
