Michael Meadows made inroads on the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship lead with a varying weekend, ending in a superb high at Thruxton.
Two pole positions on Saturday gave much confidence ahead of Sundays pair of races. However, the first race came to blows early on the first lap when last years champion was forced off the track by a Championship rival, with the competitor consequently receiving a strong penalty for his driving standards.
Meadows demonstrated his resilience and professionalism to bring a damaged car home in sixth position and minimise the time loss from the first lap.
The second race illustrated Meadows Championship standing as he romped away from pole position and established a six-second lead within the opening ten laps. From this point, and following a number of punctures around the abrasive circuit, Meadows set about consolidating the race victory and making up for lost ground in the days first race. He was able to win the race convincingly and put himself within a single point of the Championship lead.
It was another mixed weekend that doubled peerless pace with being on the receiving end of anothers mistake. But Meadows was pleased with his pace throughout the weekend, It has been a bitter-sweet weekend here at Thruxton. After two convincing poles yesterday I had hoped to deliver two more wins for the Samsng Smart Motorsport team. The first race result came in part by a poor start and was further ruined by an unnecessary collision with Stoneman. But - as always - we came back with vengenance and grabbed that vital win in the second race. It was an impeccable display by the team and we are proud to have extended the Team Championship lead, said Meadows.
