Oulton Park Round 3
It was a confidence building weekend for the Be Wiser Kawasaki Team at the stunning Oulton Park circuit this bank holiday weekend. In the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship Josh Day secured a great seventh place and his team mate narrowly missed out on the points finishing in 16th. Nick Anderson in the National Superstock 600 Championship was sitting in eighth place before crashing out.
In the Superstock 1000 class both Josh Day and Josh Wainwright had a good qualifying session and the pair ended up in 11th and 15th places respectively for the 15 lap race. Day got a great start and was sitting in fifth after the opening lap and with the leading bunch. He was setting some very fast lap times and set the fastest lap on lap five of the race; he was unlucky to lose two places on the final lap and crossed the line in seventh. Wainwright lost a place on the start and was 16th after lap one he was working hard and up to 14th at one point but dropped back on the last.
Josh Day - "This weekend has been great for us despite the result not showing it, it was really good and we've made massive improvements this weekend and definitely moving forward and some really good changes with the bike. We tested all weekend at Cadwell last week on old tyres, which was really helpful here when the heat started to play havoc on grip as it gave me a really good understanding of how the bike moves around. I got some good Championship points here and now I'm really happy we're moving forward and making progression. My lap times were good and I can run the same pace as the front runners, I hit a couple of false neutrals in the final laps and it cost me a few places. Really happy though."
Josh Wainwright - "I'm a little bit disappointed this weekend but to be honest Oulton isn't one of my favourite circuits and this time last year I left in an ambulance so I'm pleased to be leaving here in one piece. I missed one of the qualifying sessions and this really put us on the back foot so I felt like I was trying to play catch up all the time. I perhaps took the first few laps a bit too steady and should have been more aggressive to push through the pack but I was a little wary and just wanted to bring the bike home. I, like Josh (Day) also hit a false neutral and it cost me a couple of places on the final laps. I am feeling pretty happy with the bike and the team though and the way things are going so I'm looking forward to getting to Donington in a couple of weeks."
In the Superstock 600 class Nick Anderson was having a great weekend during practice and qualifying and was moving up the grid eventually securing his first front row start by qualifying in fourth place for the Be Wiser Kawasaki team. He got a good start a but dropped back to eighth place by lap six and then was unlucky to crash out at Shell Oil's unhurt.
Nick Anderson - "I'm really gutted I crashed out of the race as the weekend was all going so well, the bike felt mint and I was really happy with the progress we made all weekend. The Be Wiser guys worked really hard all weekend and each time we went out we improved on our times and I was really pleased to get on the front row. I think the problem may have been I was trying too hard to get a good result and it seem to have the opposite effect, I'm gutted to have crashed but looking forward to getting to Donington."
Team Owner/Manager Alan Grieg - "This weekend was looking set to be a mega weekend as all the riders qualified well but we just had a couple of problems during the races. It was great having Nick on the front row and a massive confidence boost for him, unfortunately the race didn't quite go to plan. He was running strong and has shown now he can run with the front runners and we hope that we can keep him there and contend for a podium position. He is still young and inexperienced but showing he has the potential to be a strong contender in that class.
Josh Day got a great start and set the fastest lap time on lap five, he was looking confident for a fourth place finish until a technical problem hindered his progress in the closing stages of the race. It was a strong finish despite this issue and we have taken a number of positives from it and that is that he has the pace to run at the front.
Josh Wainwright had a better start than he's had at the previous two rounds and was looking good for a points scoring position. He also had a small problem in the closing laps that lost him a couple of places on the last lap, but his times were good and he proved himself well with his lap times.
In general I'm really pleased with how the weekend went and happy with the progress we are now making and where we should be with it all. We are looking forward to getting to Donington for the World Superbike race and competing there."
